Hey everyone!!! I am hoping to bring more community to spacehey and I figured one of the best ways to do that is to cook up a list of new bands for people to check out! I figured a lot of users here have a shared interest with scene bands so I wanted to start a list of new (and I can make a list of old underrated bands) to check out!
I understand I cant get every band and there are bands that you know and I dont so if I miss any you think I should include in future lists feel free to comment some recommendations. Also, understand I can't do a background check on eeeeevery band so if a band I mention says something crazy on twitter in a few months/years.... my bad.
This list is in no specific order, just the list I thought to add them.
1. The Callous Daoboys
If you are tapped into the modern hardcore scene you have most likely heard The Callous Daoboys, if this is your first time hearing about some "dallas cowboys" then you're in the right place! The Callous Daoboys arent the conventional band they arent exactly a the most scene band but their influences are 100% from the myspace era. Their music holds a lot of influence from The Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, and System Of A Down. They mix mathcore, emo, and nu metal which is a very unique take on the genre. They even opened for Chiodos, Hawthorne Heights and Emmure when I first saw them live. Is it obvious these are one of my favorite bands?
They carry a lot of scene identity in their song titles, which is just as absurd as their name and almost as absurd as their music. If the songs dont make sense, why should the song titles? "Flip-Flops at a Funeral" "Whats Delicious, Who Swarms?" and "Elephant Man in the Room." If you're already familiar with acts such as Dillinger Escape Plan, Botch, Vein, you most likely know who the Daoboys are, but if this is your first time hearing bout some "mathcore" I would recommend the band. If you havent dipped your toes into heavy music I would start safe with the bangers, Two-Headed Trout and Distracted By The Mona Lisa, but if you have a pretty good grasp on br00tal music, my favorite songs by them are Star Baby, Pushing The Pink Envelope, Contrail Crucifix, and Violent Astrology
2. PSYCHO-FRAME
If you are a trve br00tal enthusiast you have most likely heard psycho-frame and agree that their album from last year is genuinely a top 5 deathcore albums of all time. If not, I gotcha covered. Psycho-Frame is not your average deathcore band, they dont spend time rewriting the same songs from 20 years ago. no no. They take those songs, amp the brutality up to 11, and shred with some of the most extreme deathcore I have heard in a hot minute.
The aggressive riffs, vocals, drum patterns, and of course, the breakdowns remind me of deathcore bands like I Declare War, Suicide Silence, and Job For A Cowboy but these guys manage to turn up the heat in ways we havent seen before. You know you're in for a ride when every song on a deathcore album is in all caps. My favorites are THE PLOT TO NUKE THE MIDWEST, BLUEPRINTS FOR IDOL GENOCIDE, and STRAIGHTJACKET AFTERBIRTH.
3. fromjoy
Fromjoy is an interesting band to me. Most of their ideas came from the 2000s internet culture. The metalcore/mathcore, the ps2 sounding ambience, the aesthetics, it all feels very 2000s, but the music sounds like it could have only been made in the modern era. The band has a cool mix of metalcore, mathcore, cybergrind, ambient and avante-garde elements, and vaporwave influence. Their self titled album from 2023 was one of my favorite albums of the year (maybe my favorite) and their ep from last year was an absolute heater.
The music is extremely aetherial and feels like you're in a resident evil game in 2003. My personal favorites by this band are Ataraxia, Fromjoy, Docility, and Seraph.
4. Crowquill
Crowquill is released one of my favorite EPs this year and they're a chaotic metalcore revival band. They're not all the way in the mathcore territory but they grab metalcore bands like Poison The Well, Misery Signals, and skycamefalling while adding in the chaotic energy of Converge, A Sawtooth Grin, and Mouthbreather. In the best way possible, I would not have been surprised if Erase The File came out in 2003. They have that charm of that small era a little before myspace before the scene kicked in and originating the sound to come.
They only have two EPs one from this year and one from last year, and I think you should listen to both of the EPs. I only want the best for you, and when I recommend these bands its because I want you to find some more heat music to play.
5. fallingwithscissors
Fallingwithscissors is another band in the lane of fromjoy or blind equation where the ideas they use mostly come from internet culture from the 2000s yet the sound they make could only have been made in the modern era. fallingwithscissors is a little more niche than fromjoy but if you like fromjoy you will most likely like this band as well. They have this mathy cybergrind with breakcore vibe that just feels like an aggressive ps2 game. Their album from 2024 is a complete banger and has a lot of feelings of old technology and glitchy effects. If you like the intensity of Knocked Loose, Converge, Vein, or SeeYouSpaceCowboy you will most likely like this band.
Best songs: Antrophy:Angel, openyoureyes, Blissful
6.Unbroken Reign
If you're looking for a band that recaptures Myspace energy than the Christian metalcore band Unbroken Reign is there for you. From what I understand through the band members I met on discord, they take heavy influence from bands like Woe, Is Me, Memphis May Fire, Impending Doom, Attack Attack!, and The Devil Wears Prada. The band in a refreshing way recaptures the energy and vibrancy of the risecore era of myspace, think early 2010s post hardcore/metalcore.
Im not just putting this band up because I talk to the members on discord, I do think this band has a really refreshing take on scene era metalcore. They cover a wide range from metalcore to post hardcore to crabcore and deathcore. Their most recent album is an absolute heater and if you like bands like I See Stars, Asking Alexandria, Underoath and Sleeping With Sirens, I dont see why you wouldnt enjoy this band. My favorites include A Dance Without The Devil, Fighting With Flesh, and Birds in the Sea, Fish in the Sky
7. Ashes at Last
I dont think I can in good faith live near the San Antonio area without mentioning area without mentioning Ashes at Last or Destroy All! Humans. Ashes at Last is the answer to you if you are looking for any good new crabcore bands. Ashes at Last is a band I met at shows and also enjoy as people. I tried tipping the band for a cd (didnt really feel like taking my change back) but they wouldnt let me. They werent in it for the money just wanted to go up on stage and play like its warped tour 2011. respect tbh. If you like Enter Shikari, early Asking Alexandria, Attack Attack, I See Stars, Of Mice and Men, really any band from that era of metalcore, you will most likely enjoy this band.
Some of their best songs are Mustache Cashstache, Kool-Aid in the Vodka? and Heres The Kicker. They dropped an album in 2024 and dropped their second album a few months ago so if there was ever a time to jump early to a band, now is the time.
8. Destroy All! Humans
If you have seen my page you might have noticed 1. my album rotation thing is super buggy and 2. I have an unapologetic soft spot for Destroy All! Humans. They had released a few EPs that I caught and wasnt 100% into but they were on my radar until they dropped their most recent banger and debut album the Grotesque and Arabesque (I have a version of the album that you could only catch at their shows before they had started printing CDs. (also had to cop the official release) (i cant find where I packed it before i moved :( ) But nevertheless, if you like deathcore you should check out the endless deathcore revival bands, I could honestly make a whole post just for that...
Their newest album is an absolute love letter to Count Your Blessings by Bring Me The Horizon, Rose Funeral, All Shall Perish, CYB which is their main influence, also, the singer really likes Maroon 5 lol. But if you like deathcore bands you should check these dudes out. Favorite songs: I Fucked a Scene Queen and all I Got Was This Stupid STD, It Was Always You, and Nobody Prays For The Heartless.
9. .gif from god
I made a long ass blog post about Myspace-Grind and I am surprised I forgot to include this band in the list because this is literally one of the mathy-grindcore bands to ever exist. This band reminds me of that 2002-2007 era of Myspace which I wish still existed where bands could make the most stupid chaotic and heavy music yet still be liked by a cult following and tour as openers around the country. but yeah, this is the band that I'm glad still carry's the flame of myspace-grind. They just released a pretty solid record this year and to sum up the album, it feels like it could have been released 20 years ago and would have been in a br00tal kids top 8 next to See You Next Tuesday, Psyopus, Tower of Rome, and the Great Redneck Hope.... is it obvious I love this era of scene music? their songs are short, heavy, chaotic, and to the point, my personal favorites are Gift From God, Life Like a Sickness, and and Turn From the Ruin.
10 I Promised The World
I Promise The world is another example of a band that could have most definitely put out their current music in 2006 and it would have made perfect sense. Their music is a refreshing take on melodic metalcore and post hardcore but with modern production that brings a new taste to the old sounds. Their EP that cemented them in the modern scene which came out earlier this year sounds like if Misery Signals, Poison the Well, Hopes Fall and On Broken Wings but with a modern, refined sensibility. If you enjoy bands that I just mentioned as well as blessthefall, Saosin and Alexisonfire, I would definitely check out their newest ep. My favorites by them are Bliss In 7 Languages, A Future Worth Dying For, and A Pure Expression. Their instagram is teasing some good stuff too....
Like I said, 10 is about all I have time for today, and there are so many bands I would have loved to include today, if I missed any (I did), feel free to shoot some bands my way. Like I teased I am cooking up a list for deathcore bands, and I am most definitely going to get around to modern mathcore and metalcore bands (although, mathcore is such a niche where if you know of any classic mathcore bands you probably know the new ones too) but it doesnt hurt to introduce new people to the scene. Take care!
