Hey fellow internet user!! Welcome to the Phil Found This Blog. FFO: Scramz, Neil Perry, Merchant Ships, Orchid
So earlier today I asked my friends what they would do if I died one said something pretty boring
"Be sad and go to your funeral" while my other friend said "Make a cake and have candles saying "Phils dead""
Now if they instead said "We were sad enough and instead of dealing with grief through emotional therapy, we made a screamo band". At first I'd say wow no way thats awesome. Until I realize that already happened.
In Tallahassee, Florida, 1997 a band called "New Ethic" was formed cumulating of members from the local Tallahassee scene. New ethic would start to make tapes and play shows. Garnering attention they started to gain a following outside of the scene and tours outside of local venues. New ethic was essentially on the rise. Around mid 1998 the bands progress took a halt when their guitarist Daniel Chapman had died in a car accident. In August a final show for New Ethic was held where Daniel's best friend, Mike Hanson, played guitar.
Riddled with grief the members decided they played well together and Mike was a good addition. The members decided to make a new band a month later. "I Have Dreams" was a tribute band for their friend. Instead of griefing in silence they wrote, sang, and played songs all about Daniel. A 5 song EP titled "Three days til' Christmas" was recorded in which almost all lyrics in some way refer to relationships and thoughts about Daniel, things they just cant forget. I Have Dreams was a band for half a year until breaking up in Spring 1999.
The songs itself are all extremely well put together for a bunch of kids. Two vocalists sing through each song both harmonizing and also going back and forth, giving a cool contrast on each verse. Instrumentally every song makes you want to head bang and crowd kill though also some feature nice musical melody breaks. I would say it's worth a listen, if you have 16 minutes you really won't regret it. It's a unique experience to listen to a band all about someone you don't know but can tell made a huge impact on the people around him. In the words of Mike Hanson ""It was an attempt to cope with the pain everyone was feeling after Daniel's death."

If there are any empty holes
I will replace them
I will replace them with
With brighter things
From my heart - I have dreams
