Ty for clicking I need advice pls
I have a friend, let's call them Y. Y (in my eyes at least) seems attached to me, but I don't reciprocate those feelings. They always tell me how the feel like I'm their person bc no one wants them, and that it's so boring without me. I personally see them as just a small talk friend but I cannot bring myself to say that bc ik they've got no one else and I don't want to prove to them that they're unlovable. Im probably not describing it well but you'll have to take my word for it, they're attached. I've already GOT my person and it's not them. How do I communicate that and WHENNN?!?!?!

off topic, but I love how you used 'somepony' in casual talk :D so cute
back on the topic, it might hurt their feelings, but maybe you should tell them about how you don't see them as a close friend when THEY mention it. open communication is important, however maybe that's just not how they think so just to be certain you ought to choose the right time for this talk. tell them this in a way that emphasizes that they are indeed a nice person, but just not ur type of buddy. compliment - statement - compliment is the best way not to hurt their feelings
Tysm!! This actually really helped me cs I don't know how to use advice unless it's put in the format u used (compliment statement compliment) Ty for the help!!

I would say something soon before they get even more attached saying it later or never and they find out themselves could lead to something even worse depending on how they would react. Better to be honest then to break them later.

Hello, i think is good if you first ask them directly if those words are in a romantic way (if they didnt already said it) cuz they easily can be refering to a platonic feeling.
And in the case it is actually romantic. The best is to be direct, they will be hurt yes, but it's better than having hopes when they don't exist (since you're also in a relationship). It's better to talk frankly and explain them that that doesn't mean both of you can't be friends.
Oh I actually meant all this in the platonic sense, I'm not in a relationship with anyone rn but it feels like I'm they're bsf when they're not mine if that makes sense. By my person I meant my bsf sorry for the mix up!!
