what makes art good?

what makes art good? what gives it it's soul? is it the deep message behind the piece? the feelings the author wanted you to feel? the vivid imagery articulated in each line? is it their talent? their honesty?

i don't think it's any of that.

what makes art good is it's ability to exist. a creator felt the need to create something for everyone to see it. and that's the hardest part. putting yourself out there is the most talented thing a person could do. they wanted to make a statement. they wanted you to see them. and that's so special to me.

there is no such thing as bad art. of course, you can dislike a person's work. but there's always someone who loves it more than anything in the world. you cannot critique something that is purely opinion based. sure, you see flaws with it. but you'll never understand why it was made. it's pure existence is enough.

what makes writing professional? just how realistically the author can describe feelings and images? how relatable their experiences are? or is it just rooted in the way you think? if you read something more similar to you, you'll like it more. if its foreign to you, it's harder to grasp. so of course you view it differently than someone who completely understands. 

some authors purely write in stone cold facts. they do not break away from what is known. others will write down whatever comes to mind. and it all comes down to what you prefer. do you like hearing someone's ramblings with no edits and cuts? or do you like the clean and polished times new roman essays? it doesn't matter. it all has a purpose. 

and that purpose is to fulfill you.

so, no. i do not believe in "bad" art. it's all for you to decide. i want to see the good in everything. and maybe you want to see the flaws and cracks in everything. there's nothing wrong with that. maybe you do believe in bad art.

or maybe that's where my idea falls flat
