The purpose of life

I've been contemplating what is the point of lifeforms existing if we're created by a higher power. I don't mean this in a "What is my purpose as an individual?", but moreso what is our function in existence. We built machines to do work for us, were we built to maintain something? Perhaps we serve as fuel for the universe, maybe we're moving parts of a cosmic machine that facilitates the existence of higher beings?
