I can’t stop thinking about this (TW: death)

 Yesterday after class, I had a short test to make up on. As a result, I left school about twenty minutes after 2 PM. As I walked towards the crossroad I found the I crossing usually take blocked by a EMT vehicle (not an ambulance I don’t know what the proper english term is), and the crossing opposite the side of the street I was on contained the aftermath of a traffic accident that involved one of the city buses.

I just assumed there must have been a really bad accident (since there was an ambulance, and police officers and a firetruck there) and the bus must’ve hit something, although I did find it odd that there was no other wrecked or damaged vehicle in sight and that the bus didn’t appear damaged either.

I proceeded walking and made a mental note to check the news to find out what had happened. Come evening and I found out that the bus had struck and killed a teenage girl on impact, who was walking across the street, and she was close to my age which just makes it worse. It was confirmed the girl had left school at around 2:15.

 That made me think: If I had left earlier, would I have seen her get hit? Worse even, if I had left earlier and for some reason walked across the same crosswalk, would I have been the one that got struck instead?

I can’t help but imagine what her parents must be going through, they must have thought that their daughter would come home like usual untill they got the news. 

It was friday, she was probaby looking forward to the weekend and instead she got hit by a bus moments after leaving school and fucking died. She’ll never get to go to prom now, or graduate, she’s gone, just like that. Her school is close to mine, perhaps by Monday there will be flowers outside and notes left by the student body and teachers.
