How I got my first commission and sale!

lil life update and Storytime on how I acquired a logo commission and leveraged that deal to make more connections and make my first bulk sticker order and sale. 

I started my business and I am super stoked about that - I wont be sharing the logo or sticker designs because they have been purchased and I have transferred ownership already and I do not have permission from the clients to share their designs - HOWEVER, I do want to tell you how I sold 5 sticker designs and 50 stickers for any other businesses starting out and wanting to start out in your local shops :D -- SPOILER the hard part was actually fulfilling the orders (i was uber depressed) 

SO I followed this alternative hairstylist for months wanting to get my hair done by her because i wanted an alternative spiky wolf cut for years and while I love my last hairstylist so much I always felt my bangs were too heavy after our appointments and I suck at advocating for myself anyways my old stylists salon went under construction and she had to move to a larger more overstimulating salon so I could no longer go to her for service despite loving her still because I get overstimulated easily and also SIDENOTE hair salon smells always give me a killer migraine that i must sleep off immediately after getting my hair done - i thought this was only the case for when i got my hair dyed thinking perhaps I'm allergic to the dyes or sensitive to the smells but no this last experience resulted in the same migraine despite me only getting a hair cut (about an hour long with wash) - So after practicing my art and honing my craft the past few months in preparation for the start of my business I randomly stumbled upon this new stylists Instagram story ( her insta stories I watch regularly because this girl is hilarious ) and her story this day was "Looking for someone to create a logo for me" and despite my anxieties I DM'd her letting her know I am a graphic designer with experience in logo design and asked her if it would be alright to send over some of my past work AND i quickly sent her a mockup of a logo that I thought would fit her - She ended up getting a ton of designers offers and suggestions from clients for other graphic designers and she still chose to go with me and I was so happy. We worked out a service trade into the deal so a portion of her payment was used to cut my hair ! SO now i got my spiky wolfcut and bangs which i actually need to wash today b4 i see my boyfriend lol 

I created her brand package she wanted a drawing of herself sitting on a moon with her handle I started by sketching her in different art styles so I could gauge what sort of style she wanted to go for - she liked the realism sketch of herself but I did recommend a more cartoon style since logos are sometimes meant to be super small and I thought that the more simple shapes would be easier to recognize. Anyways I just bought an epson printer and Juliet Siser and bulk ordered some vinyl to create a sticker shop and be able to manufacture them myself and I made her some sample stickers with her her brand package and threw in some freebies and bought her a cute little folder for it and everything, she was very happy with it and I am very happy with my haircut from her <3 

So while i was stalking her profile (gathering references of her tattoos so I could draw her more accurately) I also just started watching the reels the girls made of the salon and I designed some stickers based on their salon and made a little pamphlet brochure ad letting her know that i love her salon and who i am and what i do and she loved it! She posted me on her insta and she ordered 50 stickers right away and I spen tthe past week processing her order which wasa actually a nightmare because I used different vinyl than my bulk and that was a bad idea because the print colors are slightly different than the samples i provided and I think that may affect their opinion of my business  but it was a dream to find out that she loved the designs and that she wanted to order some stickers <3 This month has been such a blessing.
