Sometimes I'll be out with my friends, working with my coworkers, or sitting in the car with my parents. If it's quiet enough and if we aren't too busy, I'll 75% of the time ask them a hypothetical question, what they would do in a specific scenario, its severity of depth depending on how much I know them.
I usually ask 'dumb' questions, trivial questions that are usually purely to drown out the silence.
"What would you do if you woke up as that piece of plastic over there?" "What would you say if you only had one thing left to say for the rest of your life, and when would you say it?" "Would you rather have an extra eye, including an eyelid, on the back of your neck, or in your dominant hand?" (My answer to that one would be the latter, since hair covers the entirety of my nape.)
Sometimes I'll ask hypotheticals that involve the other person's loved ones or family. Typical 'would you rather save this person or that person from a sinking boat' kind of things. I'll ask what their first mode of action would be if they were to ever switch bodies with someone, whether it be a parent, a friend, a crush or partner, whoever.
80% of the time, at some point in the conversation, I'll ask them: "If you could be anywhere in the world at this very moment, where would you want to be?" Sometimes I'll ask why.
I'll usually ask this if I get a hint that they're bored at the current situation we're in.
100% of the time I'll be waiting for someone else to ask me that question, because all I want is to tell someone, anyone, that I would rather be anywhere else than a place that makes me feel so bored as to compel me to ask "stupid" hypotheticals.
I want to be on a rollercoaster. I want to be in my room. I want to be at the mall with my friends. I want to be sitting down on a rocking chair on a porch of a small wooden cabin, tucked in a valley situated within the Swiss Alps, engulfed by a wildflower meadow overlooking both flora and fauna, with the sound of a waterfall-if such bodies of water exist there-in the background. I want to be sitting on a bridge dangling my legs off the ledge under the night sky. I want to be walking through a forest in the wintertime. I want to be in a bustling, bright city, with neon lights illuminating the walkways and stalls lining the streets, waiting for me to come by and browse whatever they have in stock. I want to be at a restaurant that serves my favorite foods, sitting with people I could talk about anything with for hours upon end.
Anywhere, anywhere far away from where I am now; I want to be anywhere but here.
All of the hypotheticals I ask have one thing in common; if you didn't have to be you-if you didn't have to be where you are right now-what would you do?
I ask a lot of questions. 50% of the time I'll care about the other person's answer. 60% of the time I'll leave it at that. 80% of the time I'll inquire them further about their answer. 100% of the time I'll be waiting for them to ask me something back.
How else can I make myself known?
