Hey guys, I know it's been a while ._. I honestly kinda forgot about this place cuz it's so dead. It looks like I'm back tho because my phone freaking died -_- Like, it turned to a brick after I updated it...Do not trust Samsung Galaxy phones, cuz apparently this is an issue with them. Anyways, all I have now is my laptop and flip phone for the past 4 days now I think. I don't want to fix my smart phone now though because I realize now it was a real problem. I've been having withdraw symptoms, and even though they're mild, I still really don't like how I was THAT dependent on a phone ._. Well, though it hasn't even been a week yet, I wanted to tell you guys what my experience has been like, some things I've noticed for anyone who wants to quit using their smartphone...
1. Life does feel a lot more real I guess. It's hard to explain, but if you use your phone as an escape mechanism, you might know what I mean. I feel much more present in life for sure. I feel like myself. I'm more productive. You get sooo bored without a phone that laptops and video games only do so much. I've drawn more than I have this whole year within these few days and I'm on season 3 of a show I like already. I feel a lot more connected with my hobbies and interests.
2. You get compliments and glazed a lot lol. People keep complimenting my flip phone and when I explain my situation they're like "wow i couldn't do that" which lowkey I couldn't either I was just forced to...but it still feels nice to hear lol
3. Loneliness. You don't realize having a phone connects you with people
24/7. Now, I have to wait until I get home or I'm able to sit at my laptop to talk to my friends, which I sometimes don't even have time for. It sucks at first but time with others is starting to feel more meaningful. I feel more chatty and when I do get interactions with others it's more fun than it was before. Phones really do make you more closed off even when you don't realize it. So ironically, I would say I was more lonely with my smartphone all things considered
4. I get happier over mundane things now. Like hearing a favourite song on the radio now that I don't have spotify with me 24/7, or taking impromptu walks makes me really happy. Not to be that guy but it's like i'm actually living now..
5. I don't have a very good sense of time or date and I'm very disorganized O_O I guess I checked my phone for that a lot more than I thought, because even checking my watch, calendar, etc., doesn't feel structured. Idk how to describe it things flow really freely. Maybe that's a good thing tho and maybe this is just my ADHD and it may be different for others, I don't know.
6. This is moreso a tip but try to replace your phone, for the time being, with something that comforts you. Right now I'm watching a show I've seen like 1,000 times already that I've been watching since 2014 and to me, it's a comfort and it's good enough to replace my phone. I put it on in the background while I'm on my laptop and I'm totally good. It's also nice rewatching shows without your smart phone in the way because you notice a lot of details you've missed before lol
That's all I've noticed for now. I think if I can get a planner, a few more CDs, a camcorder and a good schedule down, I'll like this life a lot more than life with my smart phone. I would definitely suggest this lifestyle to others and don't be afraid of withdraws!!! You may feel anxious or irritable for a while but it is so short lived and worth it to come out on the other side (speaking as someone who is still going through them a bit but they're starting to fade). Anyways I hope you found this helpful if you're considering this, if not and I'm speaking to the void well I guess I can look back on this and compare it to however I'm feeling in the future. Well as they say in Canada...peace ooooootttt XD

Omggg I used to be obsessed with my flip! I've always been really into 2000s style and electrics. One of my older family members where switching to a new phone so she gave me her flip and I was OVER THE MOON!! which idk why she would switch when she don't even know how to use the new phones but whatever makes her happy. I still had my android at the time but the second I put my number on the flip phone I barley even touched the other. I just feel so much happier not looking at a screen all day and when I text I mostly just used my computer but sometime last month the flip stopped working and I think that was my biggest heartbreak yet. I wanna ask for another one since just my normal phone ain't doin it for me but I also don't wanna ask my parents for to much (and I would but it myself but I wasted my paycheck on getting my cat a new cat tree and art supplies for me...and i may or may not have quit my job so now im even more broke) ;-; (also i cant rlly see what im typing because my cat on me and i can barely see my keyboard so anything that don't make since ignore)
Mad respect to you for being able to aimlessly switch and naturally spend more time on your flip phone like that because it was a huge struggle for me even tho I love 2000s electronics XD It does make me happier in the long run tho. If you don't mind me asking what all did the flip phone have on it? All mine has in terms of modern apps is YouTube and a browser which run super slow so really the only thing I use it for is texts/calls and reading my nightly fanfic XDDD
Don't feel ashamed I also literally just put my 2 weeks because my job was ohio ahh and payed pennies. I also spent most of the money I saved on art supplies as if I don't do digital 99% of the time. The flip phone I got was only $100 tho which is pretty good for a phone so I'd suggest either saving up and buying one with odd jobs or waiting for your birthday/Christmas. This is the ultimate unemployment meta.

it had basicly the same stuff as yours but i just used my laptop or tv to watch stuff. i would still have my job if it wasn't for my boss because to be honest it was fun but then i guess the guy thought he could just not pay me on time or the right amount just because i was younger which it does NOT work like that so after the second paycheck he was late i quit (very hard because he has two dogs and i got to hang out with them as i worked ;-;) also kinda sucks because i used my money to buy my friends stuff and now i cant.
i had an MP3 player but my gf is also really into that stuff too so i ended up giving it to her since i used my laptop for music anyway. i wanna get another one of those just since summers coming up and my phone stops playing my music randomly once signal is gone. im earning SOME money for goin to work with my mom but i dont like her job so i dont go often. i get like 20-40 per day i go which is good but id rather get money other ways. what brand of phone did you get? ive been kinda looking at some that i wanna save up for
i told giggle u said hi and she just stared at me so i think that was a hi back XDD (giggle's my cats name she a bit special)

Bruh ._. I understand, I hate how people will treat you so different when you're not an adult. You did the right thing knowing your worth tho. I'm sure you'll find another job!
And yeah I get that. I have a Nokia 2780 :D it's pretty solid, my only complaints are sometimes the screen goes static but goes away once I close and open it and sometimes alarms will go off that I haven't even set O_O but other than that I think it's great
I've never heard such a cute cat name omg T_T i love you giggles..I'm catsitting a cat named Eyebrows atm so i think theyd get along

Nice! I was stuck with a dumbphone for almost a year, and can probably say I had around the same outcomes. I want to go back to flipping :P
Really happy for you though. I will be honest and say its not at a good point right now for everybody around the world switching back to a flip phone, with the amount of garbage ones that are stil avilable. But other than that, they are a great commitment.
In terms of those other items, keep us posted on what CDs you get and what camcorders you are looking at getting!
Ohh, is flipping what it's called?? I never knew there was a name for it. You learn something new every day!
I have a nokia 2780 and it's been good to me so far, but it is very glitchy. It's good to know it wasn't just me thinking "wow there are only a handful of options to choose from and all of them seem a little wonky" lol but my modern, supposedly "safe" smart phone just bricked itself for 0 reason so I don't really trust any tech much anymore ._.
I have been specifically looking for Nevermind by Nirvana and Late Registration by Kanye West at my local record stores, but no luck so far. They keep their inventory fresh pretty regular though so I will update if/when I find something ^^ As for camcorders, if you or anyone else have any recommendations I would love to hear them! I plan on going to best buy at having a look there since that's where I got my phone
