Hello,
I will admit that I struggle to read poetry. It seems like it would be something I could enjoy, but I cannot comprehend most of the 'hidden messages' in poetry. Nor do I understand how to read it out loud without it sounding akward. Would anyone have some simple and possibly modern poetry for a beginner ?
Perhaps even a book that explain just how to read poetry and how to read the hidden messages?
I have already tried to read 3 author, two of them French and one from Quebec (Rimbaud, Verlaine, Hélène Dorion).
I would be open to read both english and french poetry.
I would be very grateful is someone had any tips or recommendation.

Essie!! <33
I think it's quite hard to start off reading really dense classical poetry, so you can maybe try some slightly newer poetry in plain english that have clear (ish) meaning. Personally I might recommend Caroline Duffy (Havisham by her is good!) and Edwin Morgan ( I liked Winter and Glasgow Sonnet by him).
I'd also say some of Edgar Allan Poe's simpler poems could be really good such as Alone and The Raven, even if you don't always know what's going on, they have beautiful rhythms so you can learn how to read them aloud because they're very focused on sound over meaning at times.
William Blake is also good, simple but lovely and Anne Sexton if you're into depressing poetry
I think when reading poetry, on first read you should focus on how it sounds and what it makes you feel and meaning comes secondary. You don't need to know the precise historical context and words to enjoy a good poem <33
Alright I'll try to read their poems, thank you for the recommendation!
