50% done

As of last night, the upcoming album DOWN TO THE METAL is completely mixed and ready to be mastered hopefully in a month.

We're 50% done!

I have a bunch of gigs coming up starting May 29, so after 4-5 shows, I will have the cash to get the album mastered. What does that mean? It means that all the levels are even, the music has a nice sheen to it without losing its power. In short, "radio ready" (but my music isn't pop, so don't worry!) Without mastering, music can sound lifeless and some things get lost. Joe Lambert is one of the best in the business, and am glad he is excited to do my next album. He did my two previous cds MOOD SWINGS and ACT NATURAL. He also did some big names like Black Label Society...good company to be in, right?

Joe mastered the first single "Digital Stress" so I could get that moving and drum up some attention. As to be expected, it got some interesting reactions and a fair amount of airplay. More stations will play it soon. I am sure that when the second single is released, that will get more attention. Usually happens that way.

Drummer/producer Mike Sabatini had a blast mixing the album (as well as playing on it) and his enthusiasm was very vibrant. He would send me file after file, with slight changes, and I would respond with either "Yes this sounds incredible!" or "I think the bass needs to come up a bit more here." And voila, things would be fixed! Nice when a plan works.

Still no release date for the full album but once I find out from the pressing plant when things will be ready, I can then scream it from the mountaintops.

Or at least from my basement.
