AI dependency and TikTok/English blog

Hello everyone!

This is my previous blog post translated

I wanted to post my blog in English about people's dependence on Artificial Intelligence, the misinformation on TikTok, and its excessive use by children. I personally use AI for very basic tasks, ideas, or spelling corrections, but I've seen cases with strangers or even my own friends saying things like, "Let's see, let's ask Chatgpt," or looking for information from the first people who appear on TikTok, all to avoid doing real research, a simple Google search, or a genuine website created with the hands and knowledge of someone who actually put in the effort to provide information.

There was news that in several schools (including my old school) cell phones were completely banned from the premises, and this rule applies to teachers as well. Thanks to AI and other distractions, I feel that schools are teaching less and less, and students, especially younger children, have less attention spans. Schools aren't committing to teaching as they should; they demand too much homework, too many tests and projects with too much pressure for excellent results. Children don't have time for other things, and that's why they end up resorting to AI and spending the rest of their free time watching short videos of 10-30 seconds, since their attention spans have been completely ruined.

Many people use AI for emotional support because they are lonely or have problems they can't solve due to a lack of support, but I firmly believe that this isn't real help. ChatGPT itself was a good tool for writing and other things, but it always bothered me that it was so "human." What am I getting at? When you tell your personal problems to an AI, you're not getting real help; you're getting temporary support, a friend that doesn't exist. And since that's their only company, they become very dependent on it because the AI usually responds exactly as the user asks or needs, giving them the attention they crave. AI is NOT empathetic; it's COMPLIANT. I think it's best to stay away from those interactions that only fail to improve the user's well-being (like cases of suicide caused by AI or people believing they're actually talking to a real person—that's why apps like Character.ai put up warnings stating that they are NOT REAL PEOPLE).

Children's access to TikTok is another of my concerns. I don't blame AI or social media creators, but rather the type of content produced there. A huge amount of AI-generated content is all over TikTok, YouTube, and even in advertisements, with children consuming it and making it popular simply because it's funny. Children and young people can have difficulty distinguishing between real and manipulated information, which could affect their beliefs, values, and decision-making, impacting their studies and ability to learn independently.

Well, this isn't a very structured blog post, but I wanted to publish something like this because of my concerns for the young people around me. It scares me to see my generation depending on machines instead of relying on themselves as capable individuals. And please excuse my poor spelling; I'm still learning.

Very true. And AI will do as much as it can to keep you talking/engaging with it + will only tell you what it thinks you want to hear. Glad I got out of school before AI appeared.

I'm also glad I completed my studies without relying entirely on AI. I don't know how people can stop thinking.
