As time goes, I grow more and more thankful that things like SpaceHey exist. Browsing the internet these days feels nothing like it used to, and even the content we consume is different. Granted, the internet trends of the past weren't exactly free from what we would call "brainrot" today, but it certainly had a different feeling to it. Back then the feeling of these posts had the vibe of "people goofing around" versus nowadays where it's "people making purposefully low quality content for easy engagement and money".
These thoughts came to my head earlier as a song called Le Internet Medley fell into my feed (link provided, it's an absolute gem). It contains references to memes and viral trends of the past such as rage memes, Nyan Cat, and "all your base are belong to us". I can't really say that there is anything out these days that feel the same way theses did at the time. The internet seemed more pure and active than these days where your feed is quite similar to an animals feed, as it is stuff just given to you to consume based on what a computer decided you will like, rather than finding it by happenstance or recommendation.
With the rise of artificial intelligence, the feeling that the dead internet theory was almost prophetic gets stronger. I even saw an advertisement for a social media platform where every other user is an AI, like some sort of single player Instagram. The thought made me physically recoil. It starts to feel like the internet is completely fake, and this is just a further expansion of that upset.
I know I am not alone in the sentiment and I am happy that part of the internets history is being well preserved through platforms like this. Thanks, SpaceHey. You're pretty good.

I remember when everything wasnt an ad or a ploy to get engagement. Like people would make things just for the hell of it and freely help other people make cool things too. Now everything feels like its behind some sort of paywall or subscription based model. It’s such a shame, since now we are all super connected but so far apart :’( we need to keep spaces like this alive and help foster a similar community~
Absolutely! I hope this website sets a trend!

I know it's partly nostalgia, and sometimes nostalgia for an era I wasn't even around for, but goddamn, man... I remembr the Harlem Shake getting NEWS COVERAGE. I can't remember any modern "memes" getting that KIND of attention.
I think it used to be viewed as "if you are a super big internet user, you might know what this is" pov, and nowadays everything is so instant and fast that it's become more along the lines of "you've heard of this because you have a phone."

I miss the times when you’d say „it’s photoshop” instead of „it’s ai” when seeing a picture that seemed fake. Now you can’t even tell what’s real and what is not anymore - you could be texting an AI bot or following an AI influencer without ever knowing it and that thought seriously terrifies me. I’m currently using Spacehey as my only social media platform cause I can’t stand the rest of the internet anymore.

We must go back, it's not nostalgia, things are objectively worse today. I really hope SpaceHey can push through and we keep this train going, because this is literally the last place I feel like the internet is alive
Have to agree. Also, minarchism? Sweet, been reading about it.

Yeah, I have a hard time finding one word that represents my beliefs, but I've found that the left and the right both get upset that I want the smallest government possible. So minarchism is a good starting point
