my fav (& least fav) smells

smells are very important to me. it is not very fun when i can't smell due to allergies or being sick. these lists may seem long, but if you think about just how many smells there are out there, then it's really not that long. or idk maybe i'm using the term "favourite" too loosely. these lists aren't in any particular order btw :3

favourite:

• funnel cake
• any candle that's just been blown out
• petrichor
• hair after using a heated hair tool (straightener, curler)
• my gf
• mangoes
• the ocean
• sinigang
• peaches
• most fruit tbh, the riper the better
• this may sound odd, but like the burning smell from like planes or engines..? idk what causes it, and i'm not describing this very well, but like have you ever been to the airport or smth and you're waiting outside and it smells kinda burnt. that's a good smell
• freshly printed-on paper

least favourite:

• ammonia
• common disliked smells (BO, trash, etc.) for obvious reasons
• small perfume stores (they don't smell bad, they just smell too strong and then the store starts feeling stuffy. the ones with more space are tolerable/even pleasant coz they're not as concentrated)
• blue cheese (sorry to those of you who like blue cheese)

this doesn't count as fav/least fav, but i wanted to list some memorable smells! (like smells that bring back memories ig)

• none of you have ever smelled this, but the smell of the hallways in elementary school when i was in 2nd-3rd grade (4th grade was covid for me, and then it was never exactly the same in 5th prob coz i was wearing a mask the whole time). sometimes i'm still able to smell it in a specific hallway in my high school but not all the time
• bleach (or i suppose watered-down bleach). why? well in kindergarten (or maybe it was 2nd grade..??) i got mild impetigo. it was only a few spots that pained me (it started on the tip of my nose and at first i didn't know what it was so i kept picking at it and yeah.. eventually it spread :/) but still. so my doctor told my parents to give me like watered-down bleach baths to kinda kill it (i was later also given some sorta cream and that got rid of it completely). now the smell of watered-down bleach kinda haunts me, coz the thing is i was given these bleach baths several times TwT
• chicken coops. i have not been in one in forever, and do not come across this smell often, but the reasoning is my next-door neighbor and friend since 2nd grade had chickens! once or twice when i went over to play with her she was asked to grab smth from the little coop they had in their backyard, or maybe we went in there for some other reason (we did go in there for something, i just don't remember what ;-;) and it smelled. like chickens. um. it's not necessarily a pleasant smell, but it does remind me of when she had chickens. i haven't hung out with her in a while actually. i've been busy and lowkey stressed out, and idk i feel like now we're in high school there are more differences that are evident and it's just kinda.. different? idk how to describe it. it's kinda sad though. we were (are?) best friends, and like she was really the only friend i had in elementary school until like 5th grade, but now i feel like it's changed. one time a teacher was talking to my class in middle school, and said something along the lines of "you may lose some friends you had in elementary school because you were only really friends with them because they were the only ones around. now you have more people who you may have more in common with or like talking to more" and idk that might have happened. it's sad though, coz i remember when my teacher told me that i was thinking "that would never happen to me," but like now.. well, it's not like me and her aren't friends anymore. we still are. i feel like i should hang out with her more often, but over the weekend i've been tending to just stay inside coz i'm too tired to socialize. socializing has gotten harder idk. i feel like i'm not doing enough to talk to all my friends, but like my social battery is not enough for that. maybe after school ends and it's summer i'll be able to, coz rn i think school is taking a lot :')
• petrichor. yes, ik this is one of my fav smells, but it also has memories. i've already yapped too much though, so you don't really need to know more about this one
