Tomodachi Life (Day 1)

So it's been nearly a month since "Tomadachi Life: Living the Dream" came out for the Nintendo Switch, and like most trends, I didn't immediately hop on the bandwagon. As someone who has put hundreds of hours into the original "Tomadachi Life" and the spin-off RPG "Miitopia", I was delighted to see this series getting an official sequel after a decade of complete silence. I was also ecstatic to hear that the game would be released on the original switch, meaning I wouldn't have to shell out any money for a console I didn't want in order to play it.

My long-term dedication towards Nintendo has shifted in the past couple of years, ever since I got into PC gaming. Where I would spend the majority of my time playing Animal Crossing, Splatoon and Smash Bros., now I was busy playing Minecraft and The Binding of Isaac. On top of the anti-consumer practices that Nintendo has continued to make regarding their customers and their community, and it gave me no justifiable reason to get the Switch 2.

But anyways, since this will most likely be the last game I play on the Switch, I wanted to record my journey through Tomadachi Life. Documenting my experience for the next thirty days as a time capsule I can look back on in the future.

So without further ado, this is Tomadachi Life, on Starburst Island!

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

The first day mainly consisted of me going through the tutorial section of the game, teaching me what exactly a Mii is, how to create one, how they form friendships with one another, giving them food, clothes apartment rooms, etc.

My Mii

Once I made my look-a-like Mii, he immediately begins to tell me he's hungry

More...More

Knowing the wrath of a starved 200 lb behemoth could easily put the island in jeopardy, I proceeded to give him his daily dose of eggs to temporarily put him at ease. Once my Mii had enough protein in his system, I made sure that everyone on the island would go on to address me as "H I M", because there's nothing like sparking the fear of divine judgement into my own creations.

Eventually my Mii began to complain about being lonely, and although I could tell him to suck it up and learn to suppress his emotions like me, it would be a pretty boring game with only one Mii. So I got to work creating my first Mii. Before I began playing the game today, I knew I wanted to include Miis from my previous playthroughs of the original Tomadachi Life and Miitopia. For day one, I would include a Mii from Tomodachi Life on the 3ds, Miitopia and one brand new Mii.

Shaggy

Shaggy was one of my first party members in Miitopia alongside Mario from The Super Mario Brothers Super Show...and Mr. Clean.  Once introductions were shared amongst one another, they grew to become liked-minded. Seems Like-Minded In order to bond the two of them like lovers through their firstborn, I told my Mii to talk about his relationship with Scoob. Scoobs Knowing this island would need a third wheel in the mix, I proceeded to make Toko Fukawa. Toko Fukawa

Toko is the third Mii on my island and the newest to my collection of tormented subjects. Honestly, I think I did a pretty good job making her. It feels good knowing I can create something that resembles the source material without needing to rely on downloading someone else's Mii.

Every time I see this diseased rat she's either hanging out with her rabbit or telling others about her rabbit. Toko Fukawa Image Collection Toad Finally there's Toad! No one talks to Toad. Toad Sprout

And that's Day One on my Island! Overall I'd say I'm enjoying it so far. I haven't gotten far enough for any of my Miis to form any romantic relationships or strong bonds with one another, but once I start adding more Miis tomorrow, that'll soon change. Anyways, if you wish to suggest a Mii for me to add to the island feel free to do so!

See you tomorrow!
