Remina - Junji Ito review

This manga fucking rules brah what do you want me to say. It's really good, but I genuinely don't have all that much to talk about when it comes to this. It's pretty short, taking me only 2 hours to finish reading in one sitting, but those 2 hours were great and I really liked it. The art in this book is fantastic, this is like the only manga I've read by Ito (so far anyways, I'm going through Uzumaki right now) so I don't know if it's weaker or stronger compared to his other stuff but I thought it was fucking beautiful anyways. I didn't find the story to be that scary but seeing some of drawings he did of planet remina genuinely made me feel a strong sense of dread. Just seeing this ginormous "planet" in the sky staring at the earth was super creepy and I loved it. I really enjoyed the religious imagery that was also used portraying Remina (the character not the planet) as a sort of savior, it's a cool use of imagery but it also goes hard as FUCK seriously just look at some of the panels with Remina on the cross it looks incredible. I like stories about the apocalypse but I also really like stories shitting on people that I don't like, so I really enjoyed Ito's critique on idol and incel culture. I already despise both idol fans and incels because they're the most insufferable people on earth so I had a great time. I like how Goda and Mineishi are characters that tackle two different forms of misogyny, with one being hidden and the other being more overt. Sure you could say it's a bit on the nose but let's be real, if it wasn't, it'd fly over the heads of the most illiterate people on earth. Anyways great story, definitely recommend reading it, I wish I had more to say but honestly I rather just keep this review short over padding it.
