A meme of Gordon Ramsey edited to say: Finally. Some good fucking book.

OKAY the second book i checked out on postmodernism is much better. i previously checked out how we became postmodern by stuart jeffries and was immediately turned off in the introduction (·•᷄‎ࡇ•᷅ ) i didn't expect it to be so critical, and it felt like a bad starting point; maybe i'll end up being critical too, but it just felt like i was getting thrown into a topic i didn't know much about. i didn't like his tone, tbqh!

so i checked out something more textbooky and so far it seems to be more my speed: postmodernism: the key figures. the introduction is academic but not dry, and immediately answers some questions that first book had raised. there was a short chapter in there about the coen brothers, and i just watched barton fink (★★★) so i went ahead and read that one first. i noticed that the chapters are not in chronological order, which is an interesting editing choice! means i can skip around at will. definitely to-read the foucault and fanon chapters.

this was not the instigator for me finally attempting to understand what "postmodern" means, but the actress supriya ganesh recently talked about foucault in an interview! she wrote a very cool piece for vulture magazine about gender and queerness across cultures, and did a shortform video interview with them where she talks about books and movies that influenced her. very cool! i hope she has a good career after her unfortunate departure from the pitt.

while i was reading, i broke out my vintage music playlist. i have an OC who is really into 50s rock 'n' roll, 60s motown, and 70s funk so i made the playlist for writing her story back in 2018, and i just became genuinely fond of the music xD. she's one of my longest-running OCs actually, since i still write for her story from time to time. kinda want to share a rundown about her sometime.
