"Heo Năm Móng" (Hell Trotter 2026) - Vietnamese Movie

Heo Năm Móng (Hell Trotter) is the first Vietnamese horror movie I’ve watched in a cinema. What I liked most about the film was its use of Vietnamese ethnic culture. I assume it was inspired by the Khmer people, as the costumes looked very similar.

The plot is good but not new. Its main themes revolve around human greed, karma, and spirituality. The jump scares are repetitive and follow a steady rhythm. After a while, the movie becomes quite transparent. Maybe the scariest element is the sound design.

Besides that, some character decisions didn’t feel convincing to me. There are also a few illogical details. I felt that the director rushed the part where the antagonist’s backstory is revealed. Do you think a shovel could completely sever someone’s head? A corpse that already has maggots suddenly comes back to life to cry for help? I don't like the main character’s psychology, hmmm, I can’t clearly explain. It just feels unsatisfying.

The highlights of the film for me are its cultural elements, sound, and a few jump-scare scenes. It’s not very outstanding.

6/10
