Every month my church has us put out a "playlist" themed around a word. Usually this is something like a video to watch, a song, and a devotional. This month the theme was advocate, they didn't approve of my first video choice but luckily they liked the second thing I chose.
I do love my job but it feels like walking a tightrope sometimes. The youth I work with are very progressive and want to make big changes. The staff is hesitant to help them along as the older members of the congregation might complain. I feel like this is why our church doesn't have as many young adults as other churches.
Some of the larger churches in the area are more conservative but have better resources. They can invest more in youth and young adult ministry. They have multiple outings and trips for young adults and have events and groups that young adults can go to. Our church has a nice quilting club but they meet at 11am on a Tuesday. I know a lot of young adults who would love to join but can't due to work. The local smaller congregations are getting more progressive and do more activism.
Basically if you move here and are looking for a church why would you choose us? If you are indifferent about politics or conservative you'd join some of the bigger churches. If you care a lot about politics and are progressive you'd join a different church. It sucks because I love the youth and don't want to feel like I'm abandoning them but I may have to leave. I need a job with benefits that pays more. I also don't wanna walk on a tightrope any more.
