not because they're cheesy or predictable because I don't like the constant trying to make you like or feel bad for the killer I think it takes away from the horror aspect and doesn't make it scary anymore
I think the best slasher is Micheal Myers because they don't try to make you feel sorry for him or try to make you like him he was just always cruel and heartless there's no boho reason for him being a murderer like Jason and Leatherface and he isn't made to be likable character like chucky or Freddy who the creators try really hard to make you like them through their humor
and that's also why I think horror movies with completely inhuman antagonist work really well like jaws that movie scared ppl so much it unfortunately caused a ton of ppl to be terrified of sharks and even upped the amount of sharks killed because they were just a shark there was no tragic backstory for ppl to feel bad for and there was nothing to make them a likeable character
there's also the realistic aspect because technically you could be attacked by a shark and that's also why a lot of slashers fail because they aren't portrayed like actual killers but even without the realistic aspect movies like alien also work well because it's an unfamiliar concept and they again aren't trying to be tragic or likeable and that helps a lot with character like the xenomorph it plays into the fear of not knowing
also by likeable I mean portrayed as relatable or with objectively likeable aspects to their personality
