You aren't doing anything wrong, most people just don't really talk on here nor talk past formalities (hi, hru, wbu, blah blah blah). Ofc you can straight up just send a hi to someone, but most of the time it won't go past the first conversation (the formalities). You can find people who will talk to you actively, but it isn't a guarantee
