Xdinary Heroes:
Xdinary Heroes is a band under the label STUDIO J. The six members made their debut on December 6th, 2021, with the single, ‘Happy Death Day’. They later released their first mini album ‘Hello, world!’, marking the official start of their music journey. They’ve won several awards, including Supersound Festival’s grand award for Band Performance. They’ve gained recognition from multiple artists across genres and the globe, including Muse who had the band open for them in 2025. Their name is an abbreviation of ‘Extra-ordinary heroes’, pronounced as ‘Ex-’ and ‘-dinary’ married together. In line with the hero concept, their fans are called Villains. Their discography spans a multitude of genres, earlier works having an experimental vibe, and their latest works leaning towards a mixture of rock, metal, and electronic. I’d say a good umbrella term for the music they make is alternative. Their range of instruments, I believe, is what allows them to make music that is so uniquely them. They have Gunil on drum set, Jungsu on keys, Jun Han on lead guitar, O.de on synths, Gaon on rhythm guitar, and Jooyeon on bass. I think the use of traditional keys as well as synths allows them to reach more genres. If they weren’t there, I think they’d be more restricted in what they could do. As for vocals, Jooyeon and Jungsu are the main vocalists, Gaon and O.de often rap or provide sub-vocals, lastly, Jun Han and Gunil don’t often sing in their songs but do provide their vocals on occasion.
More on the instrumentation, I don’t believe the band would work as well if any of the members were gone. I think each member brings such a unique school of thought when it comes to their instruments, so much so that it makes them shine while also blending with the rest of the band. Gunil studied at Burklee’s College of Music, giving him a uniquely disciplined and knowledgeable approach to drumming, allowing him to be the stable heart of the band (check out LOVE ME 2 DEATH). Jun Han is able to take guitar solos that glide over the rest of the band, capable of making his guitar weep or burn with emotion (check out Dear H.). Gaon is able to drive the music, provide the perfect complement to the vocals, and help carve out the structure and bones of the songs (check out MONEYBALL). Jungsu, despite his original intentions of becoming an Idol, has been able to create some of the most complex and beautiful melodies on the keys as well as being able to provide emotional chords (check out XYMPHONY). In a similar fashion, O.de originally trained to become an Idol, but he stepped up to the challenge of becoming a synth artist, adding a plethora of decoration to the songs with exiting flashes, anticipation, and haunting beauty (check out Bad Chemical). Jooyeon provides depth, giving them a fuller sound while being able to complement the guitars or add flare to the songs via a wide variety of techniques, such as slapping (check out George the Lobster).
I adore and admire Xdinary Heroes so much. I’ve been a huge fan of them since their debut and have followed them ever since. I am always so amazed by what they are able to accomplish with their music and, just, the evolution of their music in general. I can say I have never been disappointed with a comeback, and I’ve haven’t disliked any of their songs thus far. It’s rare that you find a musician that you click so well with and I’m glad I get to say I am a fan. It has also been so cool to see the members really come out of their shells and become more confident in themselves. Something that I enjoy from them as well is that they have a lot of content they post online. It’s always nice to just see them interact as friends without the stress of performing. I didn’t rave about it a lot above, but outside of their instrumental talent they are phenomenal vocalists as well. Jooyeon especially, his vocals are a huge defining factor of XH and although he isn’t the only one, I feel that he is able to draw people to the group due to this. I’d say my favorite member is Jun Han. His personality feels similar to mine and the power he has with those damn guitars will get me every time. I can’t say I’m too biased to one member though as each one of them has their own charms in my eye. I think any music lover will enjoy Xdinary Heroes and maybe they can be the bridge to international music for a lot of people. I really hope y’all check them out, and hopefully you’ll become a Villain while you’re at it!
