Fanfic chapter 3

Back home

The same cold walls plastered with nothing but empty promises greet Ari as he enters his room. Every day he sleeps here. Though the comfort is not the same that it has always been. Prying eyes continue to follow him everywhere, at least that’s what it feels like.

Luckily his parents seem to respect the fact that he often locks his door.

------------

“I’m home!” the soft voice cuts through the silence. A faint reply gets yelled back while shoes get taken off.

Soft footsteps tap up the stairs towards the end of the hallway. A door creaks open to a brightly lit room. The walls are covered with colorful posters and pictures. Shelves adorned with figures, plushies and books. This, this is home.

Miko lands in their chair spinning a bit before landing at their desk.

“What a great day” Miko sighs with relief. “And not even a lot of homework” words get spoken loudly out to nobody. Their feet scoot up under their legs as they pick up a pen from a cup standing on the table. It’s filled with boxes, cups and multiple art supplies.

Miko opens a book they took from their bag. Biology homework. Not their favorite subject. But to be fair any of the ones that require numbers are the hardest. Miko considers not doing it and waiting for a different day, but alas. It’s kind of a must… “Hmm…” They couuuuld ask Ari to help with it? I mean, they did have a pretty nice lunch break today, and Ari even helped with some free work later on the day. He doesn’t seem as bad as Miko had thought after the interaction the day prior.

The thought about getting help from Ari is tempting, but surely it can’t be that hard- right?

Miko puts on some nice tunes on their speaker, opens the window to get some fresh air in and sets their pen to the paper.

Nothing. Reading a few lines in their textbook makes them re-consider their approach. It looks like the question asks for a summary and explanation of chapter 3 on parasites. Miko recalls the teacher mentioning something about it in a class at some point but it’s too vague to help. Guess they’ll just have to read up on it now, like they always end up doing. If only they could focus in class, but the environment is just too distracting! There’s always someone talking or some noise distracting Miko. “It’s so annoying!” The last few words get hissed out in a low whisper.

Miko’s eyes furrow as they read the chapter. All of these words are so confusing. It would really help if someone could explain these concepts more in depth, without using all these other fancy words that Miko doesn’t remember learning.

Protozoans, amoebic dysentery, vector-transmitted parasitism- what does any of this even mean?!

Miko feels their brain is about to explode. With a heavy sigh they lay their head down on the open book.

The curtain clanks up against the window banister with every wind gust that enters the room. Gently the plants sway. Light hitting glass forming rainbows on the walls, ceiling and floor.

“Why does biology need to be so hard, why can’t they just use simpler words?-” Miko pushes themself up from the table grabbing at their curls “URGHH! Why does it have to be so difficult!”

Pushing away from the table they put their feet up on the chair again. Thunk- they bump into the closet behind them. Hmmmm. They could—, instead of doing homework, the smart option, plan fun outfits, the fun option.

“Luckily I’m not smart!” while opening the closet they push the chair away with a light push from their foot.

“Hmmmm. What could be good combos” Miko stares thoughtfully at the different shirts, sweaters, pants and other clothes. They have a lot, it’s a shame they go to a school that requires a uniform. Though they would never get rid of any of it! I mean come on, each clothing piece has so much potential- and besides it’s not like Miko’s getting any taller anymore.

They pull out a purple vest, the type with a v-shaped neck.

“Huh, I should wear this one more often, it’s got a nice argyle pattern and everything.” shame it’s so hot out nowadays.

Back in the closet it goes!

“Ooo!-” A bland pair of blue shorts get pulled out “Oh wait, i thought these were cooler” their mouth turns down in disappointment. “Though…” a white tank-top, their favorite, gets pulled out with their right hand.

A thoughtful hum fills the room, followed by silence. Both clothing articles get thrown on the chair.

“Maybe if I…”

A big box at the bottom of the closet gets opened. Filled with shiny glitter accessories and trinkets. It’s glorious.

Miko pulls the box out into the room. Rays of light hit the treasures filling the room with small dancing lights. Many trinkets of both fabric, beads, charms and more get scattered across the floor in a colorful mess.

This is what Miko loves.

Little by little small trinkets and accessories get picked off. First ones with colors that don’t match. Then ones that don’t fit. And lastly they’re left with a few meticulously chosen accessories and trinkets.

With a quick change in clothes they stand in front of the mirror on the inner side of the door on the closet. It’s quite nice. Very airy. could be used for a day out perhaps?

They turn a bit in front of the mirror. The purple fabric sloped around their waste helps focus the color-pallette, from bland to purple and blue.

The ankle bracelets also help adding a little flair lower down since they aren't wearing any longer pants. Besides, they’re a lovely paring together with the bracelets Miko has chosen. As well as all the other accessories they’re wearing.

Over-decorating outfits is just so awesome!!!
