SO,
Red Vox released their fifth album Visions on January 14th, and BOY I have some thoughts. Spoiler alert: IT'S SO GOOD!!!
The first track, Visions and Afterthoughts, was sadly my least favorite track. All other album openers from Red Vox's discography have been really really good, and this one was too, but I don't know, I think I was expecting a little bit more from it. It's okay though, because like I said, it's still very good!
The second track, Middle of the Street, is my third favorite from this album. It's kind of chill and groovy. I don't have much to add, except Vinny (the group's vocalist & guitarist) really takes the spotlight with his vocals in this!!
The Temple is the third track. BOY, where do I even start? The Temple is my absolute favorite track off of the album. It's very rough, like what I expected the entire album to be like before it came out. I can't put everything I think about this song into words, but take my word for it, IT'S AMAZING!
Choking on the Spite is the fourth track, and also another hard rock track. When I first heard this song as a single, I did like it, but it's absolutely grown on me. It sounds like a song in the soundtrack of some badass action movie.
The fifth track is called Elessar, and I have some mixed feelings. I definitely like it, but it's not the type of song I'd listen to very often. I especially like the percussion on this song, I'm not sure why, but I do!! Vinny also hits some higher notes in this song.
There's a Place is the sixth track on the album and was originally my favorite song out of the three singles that came out. It's very catchy and has a melody that gets stuck in your head very easily. The lyrics in this song are also pretty good.
Winning The Most, my second favorite song off this album and the seventh track. The Talking Heads influence is pretty obvious in this song (they even included the Once in a Lifetime music video in the visualizer for this song!!). Although it sort of feels out of place when you first listen to the album in full, in my opinion it fits perfectly. It's mildly pop-y, and does a great job at balancing out the vibes in the album, so it's not just heavy song after heavy song.
The eighth track, All About a Feeling, is upbeat but also laid back as well. I think the best part of this song is Vinny's vocals. He really adds color to the track. I can imagine listening to this song on a sunny summer day.
I'll Know is the ninth track on Visions. It starts the slow, calmer end to the album. I don't have much to add, except I REALLY like the lyrics.
There's a Time is the last track, and by far the most deep and retrospective track. It ties together one of the themes of the album "There's a time for everything to end / There's no time to try and comprehend". It's just as existential as Red Vox's last closer track, Pale Blue Dot. I think this track is trying to tell the listener that sometimes things happen, and even though you don't know why it happened, you have to accept it happened, because there's no use trying to understand the non-understandable.
Overall, Visions is quite a strong album, and one I'll be listening to on repeat. I'd give it an 8.7/10 probably!! I'm so glad I got the visions hoodie back in December.
