Okay so I just typed up this whole rant in my diary and I have this urge to make it public. For context, I recently switched to an android flip phone and my college needs you to use this 2FA thing on your phone to access Cedar and MS Office. I had to resort to reviving my old smartphone from the dead because the stupid app was refusing to send the notification because "the admin said no" in fancy corporate speak.
I had to check cedar and my emails to see if the exam timetable has been released yet. The answer is no. I learned this after messing about with microsoft authenticator for like 15 minutes which put me in a bad mood because I hate how my college loves to throw it’s arms into shitty mainstream technology like MS office is so shit now yet they still insist on using it, updating to windows 11, lecturing us about all being social media addicts while also forcing us to use modern smartphones just to check teams and lecture us when we don’t bother god I hate these old people who think they know about tech but they really don’t. I sideloaded the authenticator, logged in but it just didn’t work. it shows up as logged in but no notifications and sometimes it tells me the admin is denying me and I’m like “why?”. Is it due to the lack of google play? Is it because it’s an old version of android (but still good enough for the app?) I’m gonna have to go tackle this in student services next week which is bullshit as I don’t have long left but I need to know my exam timetable which you would think would be revealed by now as it’s a month to the exams but no, all that swearing for nothing. Fucking modern technology I swear to god stop with the bullshit authenticators, stop with 2FA, stop with “passwordless” where you need a working phone, stop with the biometric crap, it’s not “secure”, it’s not “safe” and it sure as hell isn’t “convenient”. Fucking normies...
I've seen the downfall of MS Office before my very eyes: the servers that feel like they're one breath away from giving up, the bloat in teams, the signing out when you're trying to sign into outlook and only outlook, copilot being crammed into everything including the home screen of Office where I'm surprised my college hasn't caught onto the gen AI yet, it's a right mess. Teams is so fucking slow for no reason and they keep changing the URL "for safety" or whatever and it's like mate, pull yourself together you're a multi billion dollar corporation, sort your damn servers out! I will pull my hair out if I have to use MS Office in university I'm getting real sick of Microslop: it all went downhill ever since they removed the word art and publisher.
I just hope the people at student services don't just shrug their shoulders and go "just use a smartphone" but I have a strong feeling they will.
