All My Own
On a road well worn I was pushed along
to reach the destination I was shown;
I never really liked how it was paved
and where it led was not where I would go.
In time I came to where the road diverged
and had to choose the route that I would take
I stood there in the crossroads unimpressed
for every road was paved and manicured.
"Take a road that's safe" they said all pointing
as if they were the guides of every truth
and my success depended on their plans
so I could reach the mountaintop at last.
So fed up with the courses they had made
I turned and headed for the gnarly wood
and chose a route none others ever had
to forge a path through life all on my own.
Notes: This is a tribute poem to Robert Frost done in a style similar to his verse and themes.
