Do you value your privacy?
If you do, that's good, i'm glad you care. Privacy is a fundamental right we all should have. After all, if law can decide where privacy starts and ends, then there's no separation of person and public.
Now let me ask, what have you done to protect your privacy during these trying times.
I don't like to be harsh or come off as aggressive, but it seems like all i see people doing is fucking complaining!
All these companies who have been found of wrong doing on their users and nobody walks away, nobody says enough and steps back from them. I still see millions of people using Discord, Tiktok, and so on. People who were mad, pissed even, from how they kept wording the posts they'd continue uploading on those platforms. It's a joke that ain't funny anymore.
But they don't leave, why? Oh I've been sitting with that question for two months. I think the reason is that people can't distinguish corporations from government anymore. They spend so much goddamn time online that when an age verification law passes, they treat it as if the gestapo is going door to door for these id checks. But they're not, cause ice is too busy playing with ai and riot gear.
People seem to have lost the ability to discern between a policy and restrictions enforced by court summons. But listen, if you haven't started ranting in a comment yet, good, your patience isn't totally fried yet. When a company does something we don't like, what do we do?? "we stop using their product or service", now follow along. So if a company like Amazon demands an id to checkout, we delete our account and shop elsewhere. If a company like Discord is using ai to sell data to data collectors, we delete our account and try an open source alternative.
I respectively don't give a fuck about botnets or shadow accounts or flock/ring. My point if you're paying attention, is when companies do things we don't like, it's not a hopeless fight that we need to advocate for change. i don't know if you noticed, but these politicians could care less about how you don't like it, cause they get funded by companies like Meta to pass these laws. When these companies step out of line, we go elsewhere.
I'm here on Spacehey, cause i fucking hate every other social media. When this place finally falls, I'll again go elsewhere. Privacy is when we draw the line with our usage, cause if we wait for these companies to draw the line, you'll get your fucking 1984 i hear you all cry about.
