11-04-2026: Homeschooling is a lie.

You know those American movies, where introverts are the main characters, and they thrive being alone. When their school gets too tough and they prefer being homeschooled. Lie.

Even if you’re an introvert or an extrovert or even an ambivert, whoever you are, if you’re homeschooled it’ll be like you’re in hell.

I’m an ambivert, I enjoy my own company as well as the company of others. But after I finished 9th grade, we travelled to a new country. A country, where I was a total stranger.

What made it worse was that the kids my age were really below me. I’m not trying to be proud or ungrateful or anything, I’m actually really glad I was given the chance to travel to a new country… but, I just miss my company.

So because of the educational system, I couldn’t go to 10th grade like I would have if I had stayed in my home country. So the only option I had left instead of travelling back home was to be- homeschooled.

I’m dreading it right now. You think it’s easy being the only one taught at home?! WELL NO! Even though school sometimes give a ton of assignments and school work, homeschooling means you virtually don’t get any holiday at all. It’s just you and the books.

But thankfully, this year I’ll be travelling back to my home country, because of my exams and stuff. I just can’t wait to be back where I belong.

I've been homeschooled my entire life; I never even set foot in a physical classroom until starting college and I can say with absolute certainty that I was significantly more lonely and depressed schooling at home in comparison to how it is now that I'm in college where I have actual in-person friends rather than most of my interaction being online.

That being said, there are definitely good and bad sides to it in my experience. At least here in the US, I can't speak for anywhere else, there are homeschool groups for socializing and education, which certainly helps with things, but not everyone is able to go to those regularly -- many of those groups do meet-ups during the work week and most families aren't able to regularly make that if at all -- and on top of that, homeschooled kids aren't saints simply because of the fact they're homeschooled. I can tell you right now that I got picked on a lot in on of those groups because of my differences until I just never went back, and it took a very long time for me to recover from that.

In terms of holidays and whatnot though, the way I was homeschooled we (me and my siblings) did get specific holidays off, but we almost never got summer off -- on the plus side with that, though, the year-around schooling did mean we could go places more often without the restriction of a classroom until a certain time, so we didn't get summer but we also didn't always have full school-weeks.

I don't regret being homeschooled per se, but I oftentimes wonder how I would have been if I had gone to a public school in my adolescence. It's interesting to think about!

I'm negl i think it would depend on your school experience, ik people that love public school but i have a group of friends and almost all of us are fully graduated now, but every single one of us (except my bf) graduated from either homeschooling or an alternative school. me and my friends all went to some real crappy public schools and we were always surrounded by bullies and people who wanted drama, my friends who were able to go homeschooled said it was the best decision they could have made and they even graduated early!! i begged for homeschooling for years and was only allowed to go to alternative school once my environment began effecting my grades and my ability to graduate was called into question my mom finally put me in alternative school, and i was immediately much better off in the alternative school!! i graduated super early because i was able to lock in to my studies and i worked through them alot quicker than even my teachers thought i could! i know for a fact that my children will not be put into a public school because other children can be rude and they can be exposed to some crazy stuff at home that they bring to school, my children will have other community events to go to instead and they will have friends that they can hang out with all the time, socialization is super important for growth but kids that go to public schools have a much higher chance of depression, anxiety, and even higher suicide rates.
