Getting my OWN camera!

I’ve been on the lookout for a digital camera that fits my needs. It took me quite a few weeks of scouring around eBay, but at last… I found my model!

Introducing… the Canon IXY 210!!

(a.k.a. the PowerShot ELP H 200 IS / IXUS 190)

I previously had ‘inherited’ another Canon IXUS digicam, along with a Sony Cyber-shot, and they worked well at first. However, seeing as these were hand-me-downs from people within my family - who didn’t exactly know how to properly care for electronics - these two cameras didn’t reach me in their best state.

Firstly, the Sony Cyber-shot model I have is one that runs off of AA batteries. That’s my first gripe. I dislike disposable batteries a lot, and for some reason, my parents don’t want me to get rechargeable AA ones. Their opinion usually doesn’t matter to me, but they go out of their way to buy more standard AA batteries than to look into rechargeable variants. If that isn’t peak ignorance for environmental impact, then I don’t know what is.

The contacts for the batteries in the camera are also rusting, so sometimes, the camera just… randomly shuts off. Oftentimes in the middle of capturing. Very inconvenient :-/

(oh, and I forgot to mention how Sony has their proprietary storage format that complicates everything for people who don’t already own a medium: Memory Stick (Pro Duo)!!……

Secondly, we have the Canon IXUS model, which I still use, despite it being even worse than the Cyber-shot I have. I recorded a bunch of the clips / took a ton of photos from my week in Poland on that thing, and if I were to stick one onto this blog post right now…

There’s a blurry spot on the pictures. Wanna know why? ’Cuz for some reason, there are scratches on the lens, and it’s damn near impossible to replace it. This was the dealbreaker for me, since it rendered so many precious memories almost ruined, simply because of visual imperfections that couldn’t be helped. It felt super unfair, because apart from that, this camera is actually pretty amazing!

But now that I’ve explained my grounds for this purchase, I can finally showcase said camera to y’all!!

What I really like about this camera, is that it allows for wireless file transfers, which is extremely useful if I don’t want to keep someone waiting for a photo that they want. Previously, I’d have to find an opportunity to get my laptop out and transfer them from the SD card, however, now they can just receive it straight from the camera itself!
