non ps3 controllers (dualshock 3/ sixaxsis) on ps3

ok so we recently got a ps3 (not that i haven't had access to one for a long time but theres now one here at this house soooo) unfortunately however the controller didn't work no matter how we charged it (updated as an entirely new blog to use HTML)

well i had the brilliant idea to try out one of my playstation classic controllers and it surprisingly worked provided i now had to use the Japanese layout of the buttons for some reason (i.e. O to confirm X is back [] for menues and /\ to change perspective) so i'm now currently in the process of seeing what other controllers work

i just tried out my horipad nintendo switch pro controller and to my surprise it worked and the button layout acts as if it where an american playstation controller (which is nice since i use emulators so i'm used to this kind of thing but that'd be confusing for someone who didn't realize that X is where B is and A is where O is ect ect) honestly was expecting this one to fail

i have unfortunately come across one that doesnt work which sucks cuz this one is my go to playstation emulation controller the logitech f310 now if you own this controller you may be aware it has a mode feature and a lock on off switch both of which effects usability i did mess with these trying to see if i could get it to work but to no avail it did move but i couldn't get it to do it again after that so i'm wandering if that was just cuz i bumped the controller on the 2nd port or somthing eitherway this one doesn't work

i was scared that even if this one worked it'd be a chore cuase my wired xbox360 controller is kinda finnicky turns out i didn't have to worry about that no it doesn't work but not only does it not work the ps3 will tell you "an unrecognized USB device is plugged in" the light on the controller didn't even so much as flash signifying that it is not being registered by the device it's plugged into i'm actually shocked this one didn't work cuase 360 controllers are the assumed controller for pc going so far as to be the only type of controller (technically you can use others but they'll be recognized as a 360 controller) you can use on team fortress 2 and the top controller option for steam even above the steam controller which no i don't own 1 if perhaps i do end up with 1 i might try it on the ps3 but that'd be in the future don't expect me to update this anytime soon with a steam controller model

ok after the failure of the xbox controller i was almost convinced my microsoft sidewinder gamepad (yes i had yo look it up for the name of this one) would not work to my surprise i was wrong this controller before i go into detail on how it worked is basically a sega genisis 6 button controller with shoulder buttons and instead of a start button 2 seperate buttons in the middle labeled 1 and 2 that out of the way the control set up for the face buttons where exzactly where i would place them if i where to map a playstation controller on this thing annoyingly however is the shoulder buttons you would think l and r would be mapped to l and r right? nope they are mapped to the 2 face buttons (c and z) that are unused so think of this as having a fught stick plugged in bassically i couldn't confirm that start and select is mapped anywhere (the game i tested on i don't think makes use of the start and select buttons opting instead for using triangle to bring up the menu) if it was mapped somewhere it's either 1 and 2 or l and r i'm gonna be honest though i'm just shocked it worked and is actually a pretty good controller since i don't gotta think too much about where buttons are it's mapped pretty well aside from that 1 annoyance i mentioned which can actually be beneficial in some games soooooo

ok i should have done this one a while ago i had my hopes up for the pokken controller and i was right to do so now some of you may be aware theres 2 versions of this controller the wii u white version and the switch black version i have the switch version these controllers work the same between the 2 systems i do believe i actually tested this controller on the wii u version of pokken and it worked but thats not what we're here to talk about we're here to talk about it's performance on the ps3 so yes it works and it's a good replacement controller so long as you don't need thumbstick in the game you're playing everything is mapped the way the controller labels it as for face buttons they are set the way i would set them on a PlayStation emulator i do have some gripes with the buttons being what they're labeled however the pokken controller has 4 buttons in the middle which are as follows - (select) + (start) zl (l2) zr (r2) so the l2 and r2 buttons are not on the shoulders i actually have an issue with this set up when playing pokken itself too zr is how you use burst and r is shield well with the pokken controller r is how you use burst l retains it's purpose of calling assist pokemon i get when you can't perform the action it goes into shield the problem though is that going into shield this way punishes you by playing an action failed animation before shielding the whole time that animation plays you're vulnrable so to shield correctly using this controller that mind you was specifically made for this game you have to reach your thumb off the face buttons to the middle buttons like you're reaching for the start button usually when using this controller on emulators i prefer to set start to zr and leave + and zl unused or if they are used they're used for shortcuts like savestate and loadstate but yeah thats just an issue with the controller itself i can't fault sonny for the set up like i could with the rest of the terrible set ups on this list nope the fault for this one is on nintendo actually more accuratly it's the fault of gamefreak

i guess i'll update this blog as i try other controllers
