What kinda kills this website and why people are seldom using it for its true purpose

Well, the main problem, in my opininon, is the 'Instant Messaging' feature. It's not well implemented at all and kinda takes the 'Instant' out of the term. That discourages people from chatting and many people refer their friends to reach out to them on, say, discord instead (which feels kind of lame but I can't quite put my finger on why. maybe the 'le retro' nature of this site?). People don't interact very much/only make blog posts? It turns into a twitter-like wasteland full of friend collectors (the two very problems that I see talked about here all the time).

I'm not aware of what's currently happening over at napoleon.place, but if they plan on truly creating a successor to this site then fixing the IMs is a must.
