I recently decided to start reading, A Certain Hunger, by Chelsea G. Summers. I am a little over half way done with it but I would just like to say that this is one of the most interesting books I've read recently. (If you're sensitive to blood, gore, death, sex, cannibalism, sa, etc this is not the book for you. It contains very heavy topics and if that is not something you feel you can stomach I would suggest not reading it.) I have never read a book quite like this and I am really enjoying it.Β
The story follows Dorothy Daniels as she recalls her crimes that have landed her in prison for the rest of her life. Before incarceration, Dorothy was a food critic and food writer. Throughout the book you discover that she has an insatiable hunger for *disposing* and *consuming* her lovers and past lovers. It is written in a way that kind of reminds me of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The book is like reading Dorothy's memoir while also giving you flash forwards to what her life in prison is like. She describes the major events in her life along with the murders of her loves and former lovers. She gives the reader her twisted justification for what she did not as a ploy for sympathy but simply because she wants people to know.Β
I am not done with this book yet but I intend on finishing it very soon. From the first few pages I've been pulled into this book. I have never encountered a book that makes me viscerally react to its contents but not in a bad way. Although the contents and things discussed in this book are heavy, I think when I finish it I will find myself recommending it to others.Β
If anyone else has read or even just heard about this book I would love to hear your insight. I love it so far but I am not naive to think it is everyones cup of tea. Also, if you have any book suggestions that kind of fit this vibe I would love to hear them. Peace and Love <3
(All this being said this is NOT a dark romance booktok type book, apologies if my explaniation came across like that lmao)
