movie doesn't align w series

there is nothing more irritating than when a film is based on a series and then just… decides continuity is optional. Like cool, thanks, I guess everything I paid attention to means nothing now....😭 not even asking for perfection...... I get that adaptations change things. But there’s a difference between changing things and just straight up ignoring the entire established world like it’s a suggestion instead of a foundation. If you’re gonna build off something, at least respect the bones of it Otherwise what’s the point of even tying it to the original?

And yeah, I know some people will say “it’s artistic” or “it’s symbolic” or whatever...... Sometimes that works bbbut other times it just feels like the creator got bored of their own rules and decided to go rogue without thinking about how it lands. It stops feeling intentional and starts feeling messy?!!

The worst part is when it almost lines up.... Like you can see where it could’ve connected, where it could’ve actually made everything deeper, but instead it just swerves into something that contradicts the tone, the characters, or the logic of the original. That’s what really kills me. Wasted potential. A very good example would be twin peaks vs fire walk with me.......

It breaks immersion too. You go from being locked into this world to suddenly stepping back like “wait…that doesn’t make sense.” And once that happens, it’s over. You’re not in the story anymore, you’re analyzing the damage..... don't get me wrong both the film (amazing theatricals)and series are amazing not trynna dis it in any way....but it barely aligns by a thread...the film has you re-thinking the whole series...

And don’t even get me started on when fans have to do mental gymnastics to justify it........(That goes for a few series )Like at that point just call it an alternate universe or a separate interpretation. I’d honestly respect that more than pretending it lines up when it clearly doesn’t....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t hate weird or experimental stuff I actually love/enjoy it when things get surreal or different. But there’s a way to do that without completely disconnecting from what made the original work in the first place...Same thing also goes for the film adaptations of books...it feels like it got skimmed through and not fully read....
