For a moment, I kept seeing this discourse going on with how people project the looks of people who are poly, polyamory to be exact. Just to say, I have nothing against those who are polyamorous; this is simply what I've just been seeing on my feed. The term "Poly people have this certain look", now people who say this don't realize that they are projecting this stereotype that they are ugly, or not conventionally attractive.
In my opinion, I see that take as insensitive and somewhat ableist because half of the time they're just pointing out people who are neurodivergent. I also see people mix up polyamorous as polygamy, which are both different things !!
Polyamory is the practice of having multiple romantic, sexual, or committed relationships simultaneously with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved. While Polygamy is the practice of having multiple spouses simultaneously, it primarily existing as polygny//one man, multiple wives,// or rarely polyandry//one woman, multiple husbands// It normally revolves around specific religions. They may seem the same, but are totally different !!
Not to mention how some individuals mistake it as an excuse for people to just cheat, or misinterpret it as an "open relationship/marriage", unfortunately, a few use the excuse of them being "poly" as a way to just cheat on their partners/spouses.. It serves the Polyamory community a bad rep, which sucks because their core rules are about respect and consent. This may not seem like a big issue, but I believe the run-on joke of "Poly people have this certain look" is a way to bully or joke about queer people/neurodivergent people. You don't have to agree with the views of certain groups, but I don't think that gives you the right to bully or harass them(except if they are really bad people, then do what you will with that). I feel people should learn about a certain group rather than just automatically hate.
Anyway im rambling, but that's something that's been on my mind for a while now, I need to get off tiktokヽ(ヅ)ノ

the poly slander NEEDS to end + using "being poly" as an excuse to cheat is just disgusting ang gives poly ppl a bad rep >:[ great post, we need more people to be aware of what being poly truly is!! thank u

Yes! I think poly people get a bad rep for no reason really. Im not poly, but I know people who are and I know they don't like telling people there poly for this reason. This is a great post!
