I'm in grade 11 and I've been on track to graduate this year, a year early. However I need 2 more credits to earn my diploma. I'm completing those last last 2 credits online during the summer, and my family is moving away after that. So essentially, this is my last year of high school and I will have my diploma by July.
Because of this, I was really looking forward to attending graduation and walking the stage with everybody else who is graduating. However, my school won't let me attend the ceremony because my last credits will be completed in July instead of June??
First of all, our graduation ceremonies are entirely just a "facade". Everybody who attends is considered a "potential graduate" because our graduation happens before the end of the year/exams, so nobody is getting their real diploma then anyway. Apparently finishing in July is considered part of the 26-27 school year even though I am not even attending school next year. They said I can come back for graduation next year if I don't move away, but I literally have no choice over it and it would make no sense for me to show up a year later after not being there the entire year, just to walk at grad. Make it make sense??
So I guess now I don't get a high school graduation. I know in the grand scheme of things, it's not that deep, but to me it is that deep. I've worked my ass off to graduate early and now I don't even get to attend the big celebration in honor of it. I know I can still be proud of myself for my accomplishment and celebrate on my own, but it's just a super big downer to find out I'll be missing out on what I imagine to be a pretty special memory.
