the ever shifty state of being of my laptop makes it difficult to blog.
that being said, i have found myself at the pinnacle of early to mid twenties dead end job media, and i am having a blast. recently i have been reading tales from the gas station by jack townsend, a web creepy pasta blog turned novel, and it is excellent. a four part series documenting a gas station clerk named jack, with a rare genetic condition referred to as "fatal familial insomnia" (he can never sleep) and his weird endeavors at the run down 24 hour gas station on the edge of town. it has an unreliable narrator and leaves you scratching your head and laughing at the nonsense as the pieces slowly start to fall together and make sense, remarkably. if you read it, you'll get what i mean. i would try to describe it more but everything i've said to my girlfriend to convince her to read it has just bewildered her, so just take a shot in the dark and try it.
i recently have taken it upon myself to start getting into the view askewniverse, and i am in love. people have been telling me to watch these movies for a w h i l e, but i think i came upon them at just the right time. the dry wittiness and crass humor combined with the mundane feeling of being 24 and having no idea what the fuck is going on, makes all of these movies feel cozy and safe. which might be an insane thing to say, considering the content, but hey it takes a special kind of nerdy loser to love these films, and all i want to do now is watch them on repeat. im really not a movie person, so much to the point that the irony that the movies i favor aren't very plot heavy is not lost on me. im on a 90's cult classic kick, so if anyone knows anything good, please shoot it my way.
all the love

i searched up askewniverse and its really confusing lol
is it like a series?? if so where to watch it
so the view askewniverse is stuff made by kevin smith and scott mosier, im new to all of it myself but its a collection of movies and one animation series that start with cult classics in the 90s all the way to sequels made in the 2020s. the first movie kevin smith made was clerks and he used every last penny he had, even shooting on black and white film to save money. it got picked up at sundance and taken up by miramax and viola: view askew productions (scott and kevin) takes off. they refer to it as a universe because the next few movies he makes (mallrats, dogma, chasing amy and so forth) all have obvious or subtle ties to eachother and reoccurring cast/characters and they all take place in new jersey (for the most part) as thats where kevin smith grew up. as for finding them, i own them but they are constantly on rotation for free on places like peacock, tubi or youtube, i see them all the time. they are a reflection of their time but if you have an affinity for the 90s/2000s i would definitely recommend them!

I’ve only read the first one but it’s such a fun book to read if you’re not looking for anything that’s too serious
if you ever feel like it you should def read the rest, they're about the same length and you can get them for free on OceanofPdf - i personally think the quality holds up well but i'm only on the third one so far
