okay you guys GOTTA hear me out on this one
as a huge fan of chess and death note i realized death note actually fits really well into the game
ok so
light as the king: the central piece, everything revolves around him
like a king, if he falls, the game is over (bwsically the entire kira thing), however, he wants to function like a queen, controlling everything, striking anywhere, dominating the board
his limitation (needing names, faces, careful planning to kill) is very king like powerful but constrained
L as the queen: is the most versatile and dangerous opponent
like the queen he controls the whole board, intellectually speaking, he applies pressure from all angles, adapts quickly and is the biggest threat to Light early on the show
his unpredictability and reach make him the perfect queen yass
near as a rook: is structured, and logic, like a rook, he works in straight lines, clean deductions, organized thinking, and controlled positioning
He lacks Ls spontaneity but excels in endgame precision anyway
mello as a knight: is aggressive, chaotic, and unconventional knights jump over pieces and break patterns just like mellos willingness to take risks, use crime, and disrupt plans
he doesnt play "fairly", but he creates the openings near needed to win
mikami as a bishop: is rigid, ideological, and operates along a strict line of justice just like a bishop moving diagonally on one color
hes powerful but limited by his worldview and lack of flexibility which ultimately becomes his weakness
misa as a pawn: is frequently used as a tool by light, moved forward, sacrificed, repositioned
like a pawn, she has bursts of importance (especially with the shnigami eyes), but shes often manipulated rather than acting independently
the task force as pawns too: they function as a collective group supporting L and near
individually limited, but important as a structure, they gather information, apply pressure, and sometimes become sacrifices in the larger strategy

wait tbis is smart banana the chess peices go with the deathnote characters personalities
its kinda like how light and ryuk started the whole deathnote thing because they were bored as if its a game like chess
also as soon as i read the title o thought of this one fanart of L playing chess
also sadly i dont know how to play chess i forgot
maybe i will learn after reading this
