tonite was my radio nite... yes, the world-renowned cultural bedrock "diggingUnderground" on 89.3, every tues at 11pm, continues to resist the iron fist of streaming and more. har har. every week i talk about a different musical subculture, its history, its fashion sense, lalala, and of course, i play music. the long ongoing list includes turntablism, goth, zamrock, ska/reggae, riot grrrl, and more. it's fun, and i'm after 10pm, so i'm allowed to say naughty words on air in the eyes of the fcc. well, it's the second day back from spring break, and of course i did not do a thing but hang in new york and sleep in my bed. so i didn't have a show planned. luckily for me, i have my cool websites folder, a.k.a. my anti-doomscrolling remedies. one of which is "every noise at once," featuring a menagerie of genres that sound like they've been pulled from a list of shakespearean curses or something. "illbient," for example. also, "egg punk"! that one was fun.
so i spent an hour picking through random genres and playing them on air. it certainly wasn't my typical show, but i had lots of fun. if you're reading this you should listen to "drugs and masturbation" by worm quartet. it was under the tag "geek rock." everything's geek rock if you listen to music the way i do. har har.
anyway, i do really recommend the site. even if some genres are made up (who's to say), there is no doubt you'll find some cool junk.
ta-ta!
