I was watching one piece season 2 live action, this will have spoilers so yeah
so in season 2 there is an episode with a whale "Lagoon" where as a baby he is friends with a pirate crew but they have to leave him behind so he doesn't die but unfortunately they all die and they never reunite and the wale "Lagoon" never understands why and for years bangs his head into a rock wall to try get to the other side thinking that's where his friends are and then later in the season there is an episode about a reindeer who can talk "Chopper" who gets shot by humans then saved by a doctor and becomes friends with him as the other reindeer make fun of his blue noise and that he can talk. he ends up forming a father-son dynamic but the doctor has an uncurable heart disease which Chopper doesn't know about, the doctor told the story as it was someone else but they magically got cured, when Chopper finds out the truth he looks for a magical mushroom to save him but it's poisonous but the doctor has it anyway as he's 1 foot in the grave already. he before Chopper found out was also pretty mean to him and forced him to leave so he wouldn't see him die. the doctor then sees he king and asks them not to hurt Chopper and talks about life and death. beautiful scene and he gets shot to death now the meaning of why I said all this, as I was watching it I was pretty upset. I SOBBED during Lagoons episode and was a mess when the doctor said Chopper was his son. but my uncle (26) and dad (38) who have both watched it before me and my uncle watched the whole anime laughed at me crying saying it isn't real and acting as tho the feelings I felt for it weren't real. I tried explaining that it's about empathy and understanding the story that it isn't necessarily about the characters but having empathy and seeing the emotional story weaved into it even if they are cgi animals, stories are there to help you feel and express emotions that sometimes you don't even know are there even if you don't relate to the whole story with how it's told can connect you to the emotional dept. they didn't take it seriously, not that they could with how little they actually listened. it just makes me so sad for my younger brother who is turning out alot like them. thankfully my little sister agreed with me.
