Backyard Brown Bunnies

Woah first post. Anyway my backyard for about two years now has been home to a little brown bunny who we called Brown Bunny. He would come out durring the day and hop around and generally just be a bunny. This wasn’t a problem persay, just something we had to keep in mind when letting my two dogs out to pee (an australian shepherd and a beagle boxer mut). They had found rabbit nests a few times before and, while we tried to always save the bunnies, sometimes we couldn’t get there in time to take them to an animal rescue/rehabilitation center. The way we avoid them finding anything is by staggering them going out (letting one out then the other 15-30 seconds after) and keeping an eye on them while they’re back there. 

Last week they were let out at the same time in the morning which, while not ideal for the previously mentioned reasons, is usually fine because Brown Bunny doesnt tend to come out of his den until around lunchtime. The dogs go out, pee, and then have disappeared. This could mean a few things but my mom immediately assmed it was the gate because Olive (the australian shepherd) was already coming back. My other dog, Greta, is two separate hound dogs and so if the gate opens she will just take off. But Greta was soon behind Olive. Who had a bunny in her mouth. Olive dropped it at my moms feet who was (naturally) very upset. 

The dogs were put in time out for breakfast and my mom had to break the news to my stepmother. Who was equally, if not more, upset as my mother.  My brother, 2, was also upset but not for Brown Bunny related reasons. This child will wake up at the crack of dawn but that day apparently 6am was too early for him. And he was making that all of our problem. So he got to learn that Lucky Charms come with marshmallows inside the cereal already to make him be quiet for a bit and now we get the pleasure of listening to him demand cereal every day.

The reason I’m telling this story though and don’t feel bad about it is because I got a message today from my mom that Brown Bunny has been spotted and he’s okay. So my brother apparently learned about Lucky Charms for no real reason.
