alt is dead

yep. after 50+ years, alternative fashion/music has become mainstream corporate slop. 

Before I get into this let me define being Alt in MY OWN OPINION. I believe being alt is having your own free will and individuality, while also NOT conforming to societal norms, but your own. For me, being alt is also VERY political. For example, not supporting ANY form of government/presidency, and also fighting for what's right. Also, fashion isn't a HUGE part into being alt, you don't need 20 bracelets on each arm just to be alt, nor do u have to wear a shirt saying fuck trump on it.

Now that is out of the way, lets talk about the reasons I believe alt is dead. 

1. The amount of mainstream posers omg. And when i say poser I don't mean someone just starting out, I mean someone who brings down others or just pretends to be "alt". For example, "Y2K 2000s older brother SHEIN core guys" are the biggest posers in the community. They will call themselves alt but have their entire wardrobe from SHEIN or Temu, and I don't need to explain why those companies are bad. They would most likely call Nirvana an emo band

2. Those "Goth" girls that sexualize themselves. First off, they're not even goth. Literally everything they do is against goth ideology. They don't even DRESS goth, they just wear black lipstick and eyeliner and call it a day. Maybe even a choker if they're feeling spicy!        The sexualization/fetishization of goth (and others) really dehumanizes the people in that subculture, and makes creeps think it's okay to harass them.

3. Racist/Homophobic/Hateful "alt" people. Like, that doesn't even make sense. If you're hating on POC, Queer people, and therians, you're automatically NOT alt. You're fucking the brand up. Especially alt people that are trump supporters. 

4. Fast Fashion companies. Because tell me why a MCR shirt is $60? I genuinely don't understand how people can shop at hot topic when they can make their own shirts for like $5. and I am NOT buying a 100% polyester shirt made by the hands of a starving child. Fast Fashion literally took the life and soul out of Alt fashion. Alt fashion was built off of poor kids using DIY and torn up clothes and pants to make something with soul and meaning. Alt fashion meant being able to express yourself with limited resources. Now it's just expensive garbage that everyone wears so they can fit in.
