Please enjoy the music you like (long)

Listen to what you want, do it. I wont lie and say every single artist or band out there is my favorite but I can see why people like it. Sometimes I think it's honestly ridiculous to constantly make fun of people, especially teenagers or just anyone under the age of 18 about their music taste.

I see a lot of people do this with NU-Metal a lot and its just stupid. Now I don't listen to it a lot just because its not my favorite sub-genre of metal, I'm mainly into glam and heavy metal, but I respect it. It is also just not fair to call anyone who likes Nu-metal a poser because it doesn't sound like the other heavy metal sounds, people do listen to more than one genre/sub-genre of metal. There's a better things to do then hurl poser around all the time.

Posers do exist though, I'm not denying that. Like those weird TikTok goth chicks that bounce for attention, ew. Goth women and just alt women in general already are sexualized enough where people shouldn't be using that kind of fashion to gain mainly male attention. This goes for metalhead guys too, no the guy who's video you just watch isn't going to fuck you, just be normal with people who dress differently.

Back to music, it's also important to remember that your favorite artist might not be a good person and people can criticize you for it. While I get why a person would want to listen to MSI you just can't ignore the actions of Jimmy Urine, and this goes for many artists!

Like I said I listen to glam, people have done bad things and I get why one of the bands I like might not be someones favorite (Motley isn't my favorite Glam band but you cannot ignore the impact they had on Glam Metal). Some of those bands can't even sing anymore and that makes me happy considering the things they've done but that's a whole separate thing. The bottom line for me any way is to treat people with respect about who they listen to and if they listen to some you don't like be nice.

However if you mention in space where criticizing music is part of a conversation and people start dog piling you for not liking that artist/band then that's a perfectly valid reason to make fun of that person's taste, in my opinion (as long as it doesn't get too out of hand). Match their energy, I'm all for it. Obviously if an artist is like a bigot, a documented abuser, or a full blown N@zi (don't know if I can type it fully) then I will not listen to a person talk about how cool that artist is.

Hopefully this made sense, toodles!

I didn't know people were made fun of because of their taste in music. I thought if ever there was a person who would make fun of someone for their music taste, I would know already since I'm pretty sure my music taste is not a very "normal" one.
I guess the type of people to do that would be someone who doesn't listen to music for the music, but instead listens to music so they can be seen as cool in the eyes of others. I've always hated these type of people because they reek of unoriginality.

Even if I were to be made fun of for my music taste it would never stop me from listening to it. After all, it brings me so much joy.

Exactly! I feel like people who make fun of others just want to gatekeep music and be the only people who listen to that music so they can be seen as special. Which just makes them look really stupid and honestly hurts the artists they listen to.

I feel the same way, I introduced my friend to this very VERY underground artist called hamlam who has 119 monthly listeners, and he wants to basically keep it a secret from anyone else. Meanwhile I would actually like for more people to know about them because it would help the artist a lot, and would also motivate them to make more music and better music.
