DCC(dungeon crawler Carl) show/series

First, I wasn't sure if I should put this in the books category or the shows and movies category, but as it stands this series is just books right now and they haven't started any production or casting for the actual show.

I've found out this week that Dungeon Crawler Carl is getting a show adaptation and they've just announced (I'm not sure if its final) that it's going to be a live action and seen a lot of people complain about it. And yea, I know that it probably would be suited better in an animated format, maybe like Arcane, Bad Guys or Puss In Boots but I'm really hyped to see it in live action.

In another blog of mine about these books I said it reminded me of "millennial" shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Once Upon a Time, and even Supernatural and I would love to see it made like those shows, but instead of so much cgi for a lot of the more close up monsters/aliens and characters with fantastical features I hope they use things like puppets and a good props department. And for Donut I think it would be hilarious if they did something like they did for Sabrina The Teenage Witch (the 1996 sitcom) with Salem, where they used a puppet for when he talked and an actual cat when he would move around or the characters would interact with him.

Even something like The Labryinth or Jurrasic Park, which would of course be led by the Jim Henson company. Jurrasic Park especially did a really good job of mixing cgi and puppetry and made it terrifying. The sense of dread I get from watching Jurrasic Park when the dinosaurs is exactly what I feel when reading the books and another boss battle happens or Grull or any other dietys/gods appear. And it would be so cool to see Mongo is a more natural state, and it would add an even more funny meta element to his clockwork doubles. And I would absolutely adore seeing a tiny chicken sized Mongo running around nipping at everyone.

Though I know for the cost and work that would go into these affects and props, especially for a show/series, that it's just wishful thinking overall, since I know a lot of companies and producers don't want to invest to much money into new series that they don't know will go over with audiences, especially people who have never read the books.

For the casting I just hope they cast people who can act, and I mean like act with their facial expression, with their voices and with their eyes especially. There are so many moments in the books where the reader is made to envision the characters micro expressions and little changes in demeanor, and I don't want to be to harsh because there have been some phenomenal movies as of the last couple years but there's also been a good amount that have just been bad, because of acting and the actors not being able to actually do the expressions or emotions they need to do. And there are just a lot of VERY talented voice actors out there for characters that would have puppets/chi in place of an actual actor so I hope if they do go those routes or even do costuming like "The Grinch" or "The Cat in the Hat", I really don't want to hear Chris Pratt again or other celebrity names that don't know how to do actual voice acting. And I do apologize to Jack Black fans out there, he's a great actor and even does amazing voices, but he is in EVERYTHING and its getting repetitive.

That was a long rant about casting and all that which I know seems very pessimistic and Debby downer of me, but I just really want them to do the best they can with a series like this when working with live action, or any medium, but live action especially usually gets the cheaper end of the stick with directors spending a lot of money on celebrity names rather than actually trying to bring a series to life and have actual passion for it.

I have fallen in love with this series and would hate so see a medium that is so attention grabbing and could even draw more people into the series and make them want to read the series flop so hard. Especially with how obsessed companies are with pumping out series they think will make them money, especially book based series that they just usually half-ass characters or story lines because they assume all viewers are only watching the show because of the books. I would love to see new people get into the books from watching the show, like how so many people (like myself) got into Percy Jackson because of the show or the One Piece anime and manga from the live action.
