We all have lives outside of our hobbies, but sometimes life gets too rough and we begin to seek small distractions from our daily lives to help calm us down and ground ourselves back to who we are. It would be a massive understatement to refer to Helldivers 2 as just a "small distraction".
I don't think any other game has ever made me feel like I was apart of something special. I know there are other games like World of Warcraft and Foxhole where the choices players make in the game can effect the game's universe. But Helldivers 2 does it in a way where it feels like I really did made an impact...I mean...I didn't really...I could've been online during any major order and my impact would've felt like it was close to zero...but what I can say is that I was there...were you?

Battle for Malevelon Creek, 1st of April 2184

The Defense of Calypso, 12th of December 2184

The Cleansing of Oshaune, 2nd of September 2185
I was there when we defended Calypso, I was there when we cleansed the Hive World, I was there when we took back control of Hellmire and Oshaune, I was there when Meridia started moving towards Super Earth, I was there when The Great Host threatened Super Earth, I was there when we fired the Star of Peace at Penta and turned it into a black hole, I was there when we invaded Cyberstan...and I was there on the last Pelican off of that dreadful rock...
I know I wasn't the only one there, but for the future recruits that will someday join us they will hear our stories and someday have their own to tell about where they were when the tides of war change.
Helldivers 2 is a live service done right, it doesn't keep you around with "seasons" or "limited time content". It reels you in with these major events that unfold right in front of us. You start feeling that "FOMO" but its a healthy FOMO. You want to be the one to say that "I WAS THERE". But its also an incredible feeling knowing you and the community are all working together to complete a common goal. It feels great knowing that my brothers and sisters are right beside me as we fight to secure freedom's future! Seeing that liberation percentage go up with each operation completed feels so good! It was wild to see just how much our forces reigned supreme during the battle of Super Earth, we all felt it. At times it felt like we weren't gonna win but it was an amazing feeling knowing that we saved Super Earth. AND THERE REALLY WAS A CHANCE THAT WE COULD'VE LOST. There is an unused news report found in the game files that suggests that we lost the war. These are actual stakes that we're fighting over, we could lose! And sometimes we do!
Cyberstan was this constant feeling of "We are in over our heads". We only had limited reinforcements for the invasion of Cyberstan, so it was crazy to see it drop so much the next morning...Someone described Cyberstan as "Robot Stalingrad" or "Robograd" if you will lol and that is a perfect name. We were in trapped in the cold, inside of a giant mega factory that sprawled across regions, surrounded by robots and cyborgs and constantly being bombarded by missiles, gun ships, and lasers....so many lasers....the red flying everywhere....tracers everywhere....It got to the point where we didn't even do the side objectives, we got it done then immediately called for extraction. But finally watching that number of reinforcements drop to zero in real time was insane. I was still on the ground when that happened, I was quite literally on the last Pelican off of Cyberstan...it was such a somber moment, watching the red glow of the mega factories grow dimmer and dimmer as we climbed higher into the stars. The battle was over, we lost. Seeing the ships FLT jump to safety before the orbital bombardment, watching the planet burn to the ground. I remember telling a teammate that this isn't over...its the beginning of something big and I was right. All of this was because the bots stole the plans to the star of peace with the intent of building their own super weapon to destroy Super Earth with. If we failed then that would mean that Super Earth would be under attack again and Well...it looks like we're gonna be setting foot upon Super Earth's soil once again.
I know I sound like a corporate fucking shill but seriously...if you love action co-op games then PLEASE try Helldivers 2. I can't stand modern games, I hate how everything feels the same and looks the same. I hate how there's no "innovation" anymore, it feels like nothing is progressing. Its all just boring slop with paid DLC and microtransactions. Helldivers 2 feels like a game that was made with SOUL by people who are actually passionate about making games and writing amazing stories. (I know about the shadow nerf stuff nobody gives a shit lol the game is still fun) also its a 40 dollar game. I know its not for everyone, but PLEASE give it a try.
Thank you all for reading, this has been my hyper fixation since 2024...

I was in full panic the first time I saw a Hive Lord.
I remember the hell that was Malevelon Creek and Cyberstan.
I protected Super Earth.
I didn't play all the events but man the game is so fun and it feels good to play.
