I love public transit

This may be an unpopular opinion to some but I absolutely love taking the city bus. My parents don’t let me because it’s not safe, but I just do it anyway without them knowing. My city is quite dangerous so I get their concerns, but I know to be careful and cautious of my surroundings. 99% of my rides have been peaceful, apart from the occasional drunk guy or catcall, but they don’t usually bother you if you don’t interact.

Anyway I just love taking the bus. You can sit and listen to music and it’s just so nice. It also just elevates the experience of going places? Like instead of walking or driving, the bus has a whole different vibe that makes the trip feel like its own little adventure! I usually take the bus with a friend which is nice, but going solo is great as well.

Not only is it fun, but it makes transit in general a whole lot better. A bus can carry so many more people than a car can, so it gets a lot of vehicles off the road.

Sometimes the bus can be a little frustrating, though. There have been times where the bus comes way before the expected time, and I miss it. Then you have to wait a super long time for the next one. To make matters worse, this always seems to happen when the weather is just horrible. Another problem is that the bus drivers can be quite rude or lack any sort of knowledge on where their bus is headed. I’ve had bus drivers pull away from the main terminal when I’m right in front of the door; refusing to let me on. I’ve had one driver start driving away as I’m still putting my change into the coin slot? So I had to hold on to the coin box as he was driving so I wouldn’t fall. Like just print my transfer ticket and give me a sec to sit down? This is even worse for elderly people who literally need a second to take a seat.

Another issue I do have is the rising costs to take the bus. My city just raised bus prices AGAIN like holy smokes. The poor service from our bus services definitely does not warrant an increase in price. The current cash fare remains at $3.25, but the monthly bus passes have gotten more expensive.

Anyway. This might seem like I hate buses, but I really do love them. Sometimes there are issues with the service, but the experience is quite nice. Anyway, that’s my stop - bye!
