i was fired nov 17th 2025 bc my manager lacked common sense. she had only been in the position for 2 months tho, so it's understandable. she was promoted from therapist to RCA (which is like a supervisor) when the clinical director and the RCA that hired me quit. they were the best managers i've ever had. anyway, i had been applying to jobs since that day, and it wasn't until yesterday, that i finally got an offer. it's been 4 months of going to interviews, applying to jobs, tweaking my resume, and follow-up calls and emails.
no one tells you how exhausting it is to be unemployed. no, really, on tiktok, they make it seem like heaven: "been unemployed for a year, im in dubai", like what?, and on top of that, you have to deal with close friends/partner/family asking you when you will get a job, as if it's your fault employers ghost you after three rounds of interviews just to reach out two weeks later with the "unfortunately, we've decided to move forward with other candidates".
i don't think i'll be in this new position long tho, i have another possible opportunity lined up and if they decide to move forward with me, i'll be going to them, but, can you blame me when it pays $8/hr more than what i was making? the role i have secured is $1/hr less than what i was making, so ofc i'm going towards more financial value. hopefully, i get the higher paying role, let's see how everything turns out.
my heart goes out to anyone in the same boat as me, it's not easy to land a "decent" job these days, and it is definitely not your fault either. remember that everything happens for a reason and what's meant for you will find you <3

i feel you. The economy and job market is so so SO bad right now. I go to a lot of events, spaces and volunteer stuff for CompSci and EVERYONE is struggling right now. New grads, experienced developers, people trying to enter CompSci from another career, etc.
Can't even get an internship kind of bad. Can't even get an UNPAID internship kinda bad. Just baaaaaaad.
I work in education to make ends meet while trying to finish my degree, but I know after graduation, I still won't have much luck getting a job. A lot of my peers and recent grads are going right into perusing their Masters after graduation because they couldn't get jobs with just a bachelor's. "The Masters is the new Bachelor's" as they say. And even with a Masters, people are struggling. (I thought about getting a Masters, but I'm sick of how academia only drills theory and never lets you apply it. I actually wanna get out there are DO stuff, not just read about others doing stuff :/)
I'm at the point where I refuse to "grind". You won't catch me doing LinkedIn optimization or attending career networking events or perusing a Masters after graduation purely for better job prospects. I know I'm smart. I know I'm creative. I know I'd be a valuable asset if anyone gave me a chance. I'm not going through this humiliation ritual for a job.
I'm perusing CompSci cus i genuinely love this. Even if I never get employed in the field, I will be coding on my own and creating things for fun. If no one will hire me, I'll make my own damn business at this point. I'm fine working at a coffee shop for as long as I need.
Sorry I went off here ToT
I've just gone through every stage of grief already and have come to a point where i don't care! If no one hires me, i don't care! I'll just keep working in education or become a barista while I build my own business on the side. If this job market doesn't want me, it's because they don't know a good thing when they see it.
i get that, but it's easy to say "i dont care" while you have a job or financial support, but when you're on your own with no one to support you financially and bills to pay (rent, wifi, electricity), it's not as easy as not trying. i know that's not what you meant dw!

i have a job, but im most certainty below the poverty line. I'm lucky to have some financial support from my parents for food and my phone plan, but I'm on my own for rent and everything else. I don't have wifi because I can't afford it, so I make due with public wifi at the library and such.
I'm def desperate for a job in order to pay for my survival, but I've just come to a point where I've realized so much of getting a well-paying job is out of my control. I've more given up on getting the well-paying job we were promised if we get a degree rather than having no job at all.
i wasn't trying to imply that we can all just give up and not get jobs ^^'
I certainly can't just stop working and none of my friends can either. Just re-adjusting my hopes for my life to fit my financial reality.

oh ofc, i got your point don't worry! i wish capitalism didn't force us to sacrifice +40hrs a week to survive bc w these prices, it's not even to "make a living" it's to stay alive lol.

Fr being unemployed sucks ass, especially if you live with your parents
