I really want to talk about this and hear other's opinions on it.
For those who aren't familiar, 1984 is a dystopian novel written by George Orwell.
I've actually read Animal Farm too, and that was what pulled me in to his works. I really liked Animal Farm, and the ending sentence REALLY stuck to me: "The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again, but it was impossible to say which was which". I liked this comparison and I don't think a line in a book has affected me this way before.
I also read upon his life, and learned why he was writing those kinds of books, which at the time would have been controversial (at least I think, I'm not sure).
But back to 1984, I really loved it, despite the ending which left me disappointed. Not to say that the ending was bad — no, it was actually a realistic and thought-provoking ending — but I just definitely didn't expect Winston to give up that easily, but I suppose it IS realistic.
I also didn't expect Oceania to win the war, but needless to say, it's a good representation as to what the world would look like today if the Axis powers had won, and it's a good way to show how people would have lived in a totalitarianism government. I also was not expecting O'Brien to betray Winston, but in my opinion, I think it was a good way to scream, "Never judge a book by it's cover."
Overall, good read! I'd like to hear some other thoughts though, as I only know so much about this world. To those who have read it, what did you think?

It was a very interesting read for me! I still to this day think that america is becoming more and more like 1984(sorry if i get a bit more political here), and the 2+2=5 is essentially whats happening w trump and his followers, the cia could be compared to tig brother, and ice could be compared to the thought police.
I definitely agree! I do notice that America looking more and more like a dictatorship. But the good thing (i guess?) is that most of us (I hope at least) aren't as clueless and helpless as the proles.

Most of americas problems(in the political sense) come from a very small but very loud minority. Hopefully someday they will see sense
