Yesterday was a good day...

I don't know what constitutes a "good day" for others, but for me, it's one that usually consists of pigeons, thrift stores, and cooler weather.

The other day, I wanted to swing by the thrift store to pick up these vintage raffia casserole dish carriers with fruits/flowers on the sides that I saw the week prior. I was hoping that all three were still there, it was just the two... but - I ended up finding a 1970's cookbook for a dollar, so I was pretty happy about that. I paid for everything at the register and had a nice conversation about the love of all things vintage and how it's like getting a warm hug from your grandma.

Afterwards, the husbo and I stopped at Costco to grab a pizza slice and a drink for lunch. I saw a pretty lady with bright red hair and tattoos wearing a waffle costume - it even had the pat of butter and everything. I was compelled to tell her that I liked that she was a waffle as she walked by; so I did. She explained that she had been working inside handing out waffle samples. After her shift was over, she forgot that she was wearing it and was amazed at how many friendly people were smiling at her. We both laughed and wished each other a good rest of the day.

Then it was pigeon time. It had been way too long since the last time I had hung out with my feathered friends. I live in the suburbs of California and it always seems like the pigeons are hiding. I still see them, just not as often; which is not surprising... seeing as though they are always deterred from loitering anywhere. They were hanging out in a mostly empty parking lot and it appeared that someone from the nearby Little Caesar's had already tossed out some torn up crusts for them. I saved mine from earlier. They seemed to welcome me with open wings. Shortly after I arrived a man parked nearby briefly. He said that it was nice of me to feed them. We talked about my love of pigeons for a bit. He was nice. I watched them eat, took some pictures, and listened to their soft cooing until something spooked them and they all flew off into the clouds.

I know it's not much.... even so, I still wanted to document the day as a reminder to myself that it's important not to discount the little joys in life.

Shhhh... he's eating.
