Bleeder is an incelcore (or e-punk) artist from New Haven, Connecticut. Currently, he has 20 songs out (including both originals, and covers) with an album coming soon.
I've been in contact with him for a bit (as in, we've had like 2 conversations on Spacehey & Discord before), and I wanted to interview him as he's become one of my favorite music artists recently. (And he has a new album coming out soon!!)
The following is paraphrased from a conversation Astro (Bleeder) and I had together yesterday (on Discord). I also (hopefully) plan to do a video interview with him after the new album is out.
Q: What really got you into music?
A: When I first really listened to Blink-182 or maybe when I watched Scott Pilgrim vs The World.
Q: What was your first exposure to extreme vocals?
A: That's a difficult question. I heard other music with extreme vocals before, but when I first got into hardcore was when I first started paying attention to it. I think it might've been Title Fight that really introduced me to them though...
Q: Favorite bands/artists?
A: Blink-182, Nirvana, Prince Daddy & The Hyena, Title Fight, Marrietta, Loser64, Teenage Bottlerocket
Q: What are some bands that influence your music?
A: Blink-182, Prince [Daddy & The Hyena], Title Fight, Loser64. Also vocaloid, punk, pop-punk, hardcore, and just anything punk.
For "Some Things Are Just Meant To End" definitely post hardcore [in general].
Q: Why/how did you start Lunchbox?
A: When I first moved to my new school, last year, I met my now friend Marceline, who was a drummer, and we just jammed alot.
It was before I started doing Bleeder, (because I didn't have a computer until last December), and we just decided to start a band. When we first started, it was just me and Marceline recording. We needed a bassist, though, because we had a live show.
Jesse (Lunchbox's Bassist) was actually in New York before the show, so I had to teach her to play all the songs right before we played.
Q: You've covered alot of songs recently. You told me, [in a previous conversation,] that it was because you were focusing on original material [for the album]. But why cover Wilbur Soot's "Your New Boyfriend" of all songs?
A: Because it was so bad, and I thought it needed a better version. I don't like Wilbur Soot or anything though!
I actually didn't know it was his song at first.. I originally heard a vocaloid cover of it, and I thought it was a vocaloid song. Then I listened to the original, and I thought it was SO bad. It's unlistenable. But, I thought the lyrics really worked for an incelcore song, so i made it one.
Q: What does your writing/recording process look like?
A: I always have random lyrics written out, because I like to write alot. So, it starts there normally.
[And for] recording, I usually program my drums first, and that leads to guitars, and bass.
If I have keys I record those next, then vocals normally come last.
Sometimes, I'll start with a random chord progression I like though and build from there.
Q: When did you get into your local scene?
A: Not that long, maybe since 2023/2024? That was when I started listening to alot of music by local bands. And I started going to local shows recently like.. last year.
Q: Is your local scene welcoming?
A: Yes! I can follow people [on social media] in bands I like, and they'll follow me back.
I'll be able to talk to them online, and also talk to them in person after shows, because everyone is pretty friendly.
Although, I really dislike Cat Crash.
When I first heard them, I thought "Oh this is a little rough around the edges.. but it's got potential." And I waited for them to be better. But they didn't get much better... Their singer is also a huge weirdo. I'm gonna be on a compilation album called "To Catch a Predator" actually soon, and I'm gonna talk about them on it, go into more detail about why I don't like her.
[Stay tuned for that!]
Q: When did you get into Blink-182? [As they are one of your main influences]
A: Nostalgia. That's the simplest answer. Growing up in the 2010s they weren't that popular, but they were on the radio still.
And then when I got into Green Day and pop-punk, I got back into Blink-182.
Q: How did you meet Layne [another incelcore/e-punk artist]?
A: I was in a [Discord] server, and my friend found a few incelcore forums, and they added Layne to the server.
We then just started talking, because we liked alot of the same music.
So we decided to make a split!
Q: How is the album going?
A: The album is done actually! Recording was actually alot easier than I expected.. It still took a while, but, I got it done faster than I thought I would. I actually finished it 2 days ago. It's supposed to release on March 27th!
I let some of my friends have an early listening party thing, and they said it was great, so, that made me really confident about it.
Assuming everything goes well, I plan to have a listening party in my [Discord] server for the album once it's out.
(We talked a little about the Lunchbox concert and he decided to tell me about why they chose the covers for the set list!)
A: For I miss you.. Marceline, (the drummer), wanted a slower song. Sliver, we all love Nirvana so we just wanted to cover them, and Nirvana is just a big influence for us. Hands Down was also Marceline's choice. I don't really listen to Dashboard Confessionals, so I messed up the lyrics alot. I think I took it out of the recording because of that. And Jesse (the bassist) picked the Sunny Day Real Estate song [Seven]. Jesse did vocals for it, and she sounded really good! But, her mic was really quiet.. I almost asked someone to turn it up. [lol]
(We had a conversation about videogames lol. And then, we ended up talking about the incelcore genre as a whole)
A: Alot of people don't like the incelcore label, but I think it's kind of silly, I don't mind it. I sometimes call it "e-punk", and the label makes sense. But, I think incelcore has alot more personality.
(Astro has asked me to put this here, this is a direct quote.)
A: me and my homies gulp n cosolus basically wanted to start a comp of more smaller/growing incelcore artists that have been getting attentions (us included)
Here is where you can find Bleeder & Lunchbox: Bleeder YouTube channel, Bleeder SoundCloud, Bleeder Spotify, Bleeder Bandcamp, Lunchbox YouTube channel & Lunchbox Bandcamp.
This was the first time I have ever interviewed anyone, so it's a little messy lmfao.
I welcome constructive criticism and feedback though!
