I started the Dungeon Crawler Carl Series because I've seen a lot of people recommend it and just a lot of promotion for them in general, and usually I'm not much of action/sci-fi reader but I've been wanting to branch out and it seemed like an easy enough read to start with.
And OMG I didn't expect to love them as much as I do. I got the first book around the end of last month and now I'm midway through book 3. The writing and story building are so addictive and fun. The first book is mostly setting up groundwork for the characters so we don't see as much of the world building but there are little snippets that are given to the reader and raise a lot of questions. And I really didn't expect to be hooked so much on how each of these floors work, the lives of the NPC's and the general governments surrounding the story.
And there are a lot of different characters they are introduced to but it doesn't feel crowded or off, each of the characters have their own stories and they don't feel like a means to an end for the MC(s). If Matt Dinniman were to ever write books surrounding any of the other characters alone I would no doubt read them because of how interesting they all are, he makes you want to dig into their backstory and how they get where they are by the time Carl and Donut meet them.
There have been some people saying that they can't get into the books because of the humor and characters because they're "millennial core" and yeah they are but that's what makes them so good. If you watch or grew up watching the big "millennial" shows like Once Upon A Time, Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, or any kind of ABC or CW show them I'm sure you'll love this book series.
Just wanted to put this here, and if anyone else is reading/have read these books I'd love to hear your favorite parts about them or your favorite in the series if you've finished them!
